  • They can be. IMO it being fast food or not depends more on the restaurant and their methods of preparation rather than the specific dish. You can have ramen that's fast food and you can also have a burger that isn't.

  • I think laws could be used to put some stronger responsibilities on the parents. Unfortunately, some of them don't care whether their children are on social media or what they do on there at all. So when something happens to a child who was too young to join social media, parents would bear some responsibility for that. Guidance is great, but not everyone will take that offer. I'm not in favor of abolishing the minimum drinking age (which is 14 here btw) either.

It's from the perspective of a motorcyclist who gets harassed by a large group of youths swarming him and this kid in particular was extremely aggressive and tried to attack him, so he chucks him into the rice field. Without that context, it definitely looks pretty bad...

  • It's mostly because "that's how the ancestors did it". In many parts of Europe, the system for last names used to be (and still is in some places) something like "son of [father's name]", which wouldn't really make sense to put first in speech. In other cases, things like place names or occupations were used to identify someone, so something like "George the Smith", which would only slowly be formalized into family names and become "George Smith" in the middle ages. The word order was just kept as it was. On the other hand, in China, family names were introduced by imperial decree about 2000 years ago, to facilitate census data and bureaucracy. For that purpose, it makes sense to put them first, as that's how you do it when organizing them into a table. That Chinese practice would have spread to other parts of Asia etc.

  • Nope, but I wasn't planning to buy one even before the price announcement. I have a solid upper-midrange PC that easily outperforms the Steam Machine and I also have it connected to my projector for living room gaming. Aside from having a neat design and formfactor, a low-spec PC with limited ports that I can't really upgrade just isn't appealing to me.

  • In that particular case, I think the message format might have been an issue. I personally always find audio messages very inconvenient, as I'm not going to annoy everyone around me by listening to them in public. So I'd plan to listen to them later, but I might have forgotten about the message entirely by the time I got home. By the next time I remember the message, it could be an inconvenient timing again etc. A proper text message is almost always preferable.

  • I can't help you with finding those votes, but as someone who's gotten similar bans 3 times now: You've probably just downvoted a couple posts by a mod and they got annoyed. That's how it's been every time for me, a low single-digit number of downvotes was enough to be a "serial downvoter". Ultimately, I'd ask myself whether it's even worth it to appeal those bans. Do you really want to participate in a community run by mods who do that kind of thing?
