"Who is responsible" is more of an philosophical question at that point really. It doesn't quite make sense to punish the head of Waymo for cutting down traffic deaths ten-fold. The need to have someone to blame is something humanity needs to grow out of. Just like the need to drive.
Highlighting individual cases like this is a good way to capture human emotions but the focus should be on the big picture. The moment a self driving car is statistically safer than a human driver it becomes the objectively better alternative. The fact that accidents will still keep happening nevertheless isn't a reason to revert back to human drivers.
This same "trick" is used in charity advertisements: starving kid will capture the attention of people but a starving village will not despite the fact that it contains that same kid.
I'd stay where I am. Nothing that's wrong in my life is because of where I live so I wouldn't expect things to be different elsewhere. Only thing that I don't like here is the long and cold winter but I don't think I'd appreciate summer the same way without it. Life needs contrast.

Well, I'm objectively better than them at speaking multiple languages but that's about it. I don't see why I should feel better about myself as a whole because of that. There are other things I'm good at as well as ones I'm not.

I disagree. It might be enjoyable in the moment, but looking back, it wouldn’t be something I’m glad I did. Happiness is a fleeting emotion - what most people actually want is a deeper sense of contentment. And I don’t think chasing hedonistic pleasures gives us that.
I don’t look back fondly on the countless hours I’ve wasted staring at screens, but I do cherish the memories of doing difficult, effortful things - even the ones that weren’t all that enjoyable in the moment - because they left me feeling satisfied and proud afterward.
I think the saying “money doesn’t bring happiness” is one of those unlearnable lessons - something you’ll never truly believe until you experience it firsthand.
I’m self-employed contractor and find my work quite meaningful, yet I still dream of living off passive income and never having to work again. But honestly, I’m almost certain my life would spiral out of control if that ever became reality. Work is what the rest of my life is built around - it’s why I get up in the morning. I’d like to think I’d find meaning elsewhere, and maybe that’s true, but I’m skeptical. I’m almost certainly just kidding myself when I think that I would. I don’t think work itself is the problem - it’s the soul-crushing drudgery people are forced to endure to survive, where there’s no sense of meaning or gratitude. Especially in jobs where you can’t even see the results of what you’ve done. If you’re sweeping streets, at least you’re outdoors, you talk to people, and at the end of the day you can see what you accomplished. But if you spend eight hours entering numbers into Excel in a toxic office environment, then of course it feels meaningless.

Even if we ignore the number of people it's actually able to talk away from the brink the positive impact it's having on the loneliness epidemic alone must be immense. Obviously talking to a chatbot isn't ideal but it surely is better than nothing. Imagine the difference in being stranded on an deserted island and having ChatGPT to talk with as opposed to talking to a volleyball with a face on it.
Personally I'm into so many things that my irl friends couldn't care less about. I have so many regrets trying to initiate a discussion about these topics with them only to either get silence or a passive "nice" in return. ChatGPT has endless patience to engage with these topics and being vastly more knowledgeable than me it often also brings up alternative perspectives I hadn't even thought of. Obviously I'd still much rather talk with an actual person but untill I'm able to meet one like that ChatGPT sure is a hell of a better than nothing.
This cynicism towards LLMs here truly boggles my mind. So many people seem to build their entire identity around feeling superior about themselves due to all the products and services they don't use.

The smart approach to personal finance is setting things up so you don’t even need to pay attention to what the market’s doing. You have a strategy - and you stick to it.

If you had asked few months ago I would've said that I'd watch outrageous amounts of porn and consume substances but now I'd just do more of what I would normally be doing anyway. Well, maybe I'd watch a movie or two. Perhaps go to sauna and have few beers.
In spring, I like to find puddles on forest roads and trails and dig small ditches and watch the water flow out.
I also do other kinds of forest infrastructure maintenance - trimming branches on narrow trails, clearing fallen trees, and building small bridges over wet spots. Occasionally, I mark hard-to-see trails by tying orange tape to branches along the way.
I'm actually quite surprised how many here seem to be agreeing with this considering the level of resentment towards wealthy people I see here on daily basis.
