  • If it is common knowledge that shutting a garage door with a running ICE vehicle inside will kill you, why do you think so many people think 1 billion ICE vehicles aren't bad in the atmosphere?

  • Look, I hate ICE cars too.

    But this is whack. Putting a running car into a garage is dangerous because the free oxygen becomes depleted and it starts producing carbon monoxide as a result. This isn't a problem when you're driving around outdoors.

    The reason the a running ICE car in a garage is dangerous is completely different than why ICE cars are bad for the environment.

    Like, shit on ICE cars all you want, I'll support it. But this is embarrassingly bad science. This is the kind of shit I'd have made up in grade 7 trying to an edgy eco-aware statement.

    I'm not sure what style you're talking about specifically, that is inherent to anime. If I had to guess you've just not been exposed to anime in other styles.

    But it's fine if you've got enough media that you like, not everyone needs to try everything.

    Imo the problem is that studios have become risk adverse because their budget is so big, so they pick an already popular IP, choose a marketable aspect of that IP, and spend that fortune turning the dial of that aspect up to 11.

    Like X but bigger mapLike Y but more playable charactersLike Z but better graphics EtcBut none of the time actually innovating any new player experience.

    And players are finally getting fed up with playing the same handful of AAA game experiences again and again with different titles.

    Graphics just happens to be the marketable attribute they like to crank most often

  • I had a whole big response, but I'm rewriting it because it was too combative.

    Generally, in your response the impression I get is that you're just mostly uninformed about the content available on Tiktok. What do you think the content looks like there? I get the feeling you think it's mostly 10 seconds dance videos and videos like what are shown in this post. It's not.

    My Lemmy feed is vapid in comparison to my Tiktok feed. For example, I've learned more about CRT and intersectionality and living with disabilities, on Tiktok than I have anywhere else. It's full of nuanced videos a few minutes long, by creators from a variety of backgrounds, covering topics I'd never have thought to look into myself.

    The "algorithm" boogyman that folks here cry about is it's best feature. It's introducing me to new content and ideas I'd otherwise never be exposed to, because it doesn't keep me locked into a handful of topics I've selected myself.

    I don't expect everyone's feed to be packed full of educational content like mine, and I do still get (and enjoy) silly videos, just like I enjoy the !memes@lemmy.world channel here. But the content is there, and there is far more of it, and it is of higher quality, than here.

    Wrt harm, the non-profit networks are probably the least harmful, but also the least interesting and educational.Tiktok is probably the least harmful for-profit network I'm aware of (maybe bluesky, but it's still in the expand-at-all-costs phase). It would go so far as to inject "go touch grass" video reminders into your feed if you were scrolling too long.

    The willingness for people to villainize Tiktok without reflecting on their own favorite social networks makes me suspicious of their motives and biases.

  • I pronounce "beautiful" as "be-ee-ah-ou-tee-ful" like it's 6 syllables.

    A long time ago I heard a radio (I'm old) caller saying they pronounced it that way to help them spell it, and i got infected. I never had an issue spelling it, it's just so interesting that I can't help myself.

  • I drove an RWD sports car in Canadian winters, and despite researching tires and getting the best I could find, stop and go traffic on snowy hills was stressful.

    That said, people who think an SUV is gonna make driving in snow safer are just not thinking at all.

    I got an AWD sedan to replace my RWD coupe.

  • I'd suggest reconsidering wrt the electric steering.I had a 2004 RX8 which had electric steering and it was excellent. Many automotive journalist seem to agree that, despite a rough start, electric steering is just as good as hydraulic steering now.

  • Ford focus RS. My old car was sporty (RX8), and I wanted another sporty car, but I wanted AWD because I was done with RWD in the snow. I needed a 4 door, because I was planning to have a kid. That really limited my options.I liked the AWD system in the focus over the WRX STI or Golf R.I don't really like it anymore, though. It's a really rough ride, and the seats are uncomfortable for long trips. And it's kind of a boring car when it's not snowing.

    My wife has an Hyundai Elantra GT. It's pretty much the only car we use now, it's way more comfortable to drive.

    We're probably gonna sell both of them and get an Ioniq 5.
