  • Am I weird for being angry at the latest wave of songs that straight up steal an older song's melody and reuse it in some inane bullshit? The one that comes to mind for me is that song that ripped off "Blue" by Eiffel 65 by David Guetta. It's not like Eiffel 65 was a modern Bach or anything, but the "I'm Good" version feels so empty and blatantly a ripoff that I can't help but get angry when I hear it.

  • I wouldn't force yourself to do acid if it's already gone badly. It may go better the second time around, but if you've already got it in your head that it'll go poorly, then it will. Mushrooms are way milder, though, and I don't think I've ever had a properly bad trip on them. I've had difficult ones, but that's because they crank the introspection up to a billion percent of your baseline and sometimes that leads to you realizing things you don't want to realize.

    There's a scene in Venture Brothers that actually describes it well. Rusty's working with Henry Killinger, who tells him to step into his Magic Murder Bag. Rusty asks what's in the bag, and Killinger responds "only what you take with you." Psychedelics are kinda like that. If you have your baggage at the front of your mind going in, then your baggage will be the focus of the trip. If you go in with your hopes and dreams front and center, then that's what you'll see.

    YMMV, of course, but having talked to others about it, that seems to be a fairly common theme.

  • I've had a few good experiences on acid, and then one bad enough that I never touched it again. I prefer mushrooms now if I'm doing psychedelics. It's a lot harder to fuck up a drug that literally grows itself.

  • Windows requires you to make an online account that includes your first and last name. I've never once added my first or last name to a Linux install, and most distros don't ask you anything about root anymore, either.

    Also, Windows very much asks for a domain, and in fact they're the originator of it. When it's asking whether the computer is for personal use or work, it's deciding whether to request a domain to join to. ActiveDirectory (the thing the domain is referring to) came directly from Microsoft as a Windows feature that you have to pay extra for. Not to mention, if you don't have a domain, just don't enter one. There's not a single distro where that's a hard requirement, and it never will be.

  • I do a "reset" every so often - maybe once a year, twice if it's been rough. It seems to work alright, but you have to go into it prepared to be happy. I know that sounds dumb, but sometimes when we get depressed for too long, we cling to that feeling out of familiarity and subconsciously avoid or even fear the idea of being happy. So if you do it, make sure you go in ready and willing to be happy, otherwise it'll make everything worse.

  • I've gone back and forth on Creality. I had a first-gen, non-pro Ender 3 that I got new for like $230. I spent so much time trying to get it to work that I feel like I could build an entire printer from scratch at this point, firmware included. That experience was valuable, though, and it made me really appreciate the performance of my CR10 v3 when I got that. Sure, it's slow compared to modern printers, but it's huge and takes standard parts for literally everything. Plus, I've only had it fail maybe 4 times in the 3 years I used it. Moving to a P1S was a great choice for me at the time, but now that Bambu has gone full Orwell, I'm looking for another alternative for my next machine. Hell, I'm considering going back to my CR10 in the meantime just to keep the prying eyes away from my prints.

  • I've heard small amounts of caffeine can help sometimes, but not always. There's also some preliminary evidence that magic mushrooms help, too.
