Does anyone else find 'pseudoanimation' annoying?

Yea pretty much, it's the same as old video games that had the sprite loop through an animation when you were standing still, instead of having the character freeze in place

I second the advice to join more communities. I've been subscribing to more and more things over the years and my feed always has new content

Some other ideas I forgot to add to the other comment

Have some mechanism for people to suggest which niches get worked on, and then have one person decide on the schedule. Else it gets disorganized
Shorten the cycles to a few weeks rather than months. I feel like people will get impatient if they need to wait months to get past a niche they don't care about. Two weeks might be a nicer starting point, and then you can adjust it up or down?
Do outreach about the project all over the place, and not just in fedigrow. Fedigrow reaches the involved and active people, but not everyone else that might be interested in the theme. For example:
- Ask people about their favorite communities for the topic of that cycle on !asklemmy@lemmy.world, !ask@piefed.social, etc
- Memes in !lemmyshitpost@lemmy.world (see the beans, corn, and similar trends), which are very low effort
- post lists of that cycle's relevant communities in !newcommunities@lemmy.world and !communitypromo@lemmy.ca
While you can prioritize one community, don't restrict it to that one. It will be easier to find people interested in crafts, compared to say crochet specifically. Also people can have strong feelings about which specific community or instance is best, and some users might refuse to post to an instance they don't agree with. So if you give a list of which communities you want to grow, it might go over better

I'm supportive of this, and happy to help where appropriate :) Please feel free to tag me in future posts about this, in case I miss it

If you can, I would prefer that you use the existing communities for this project because there's no need to dilute efforts further. Also, see if you can create a Mastodon account where you post those announcements too, because that's a large userbase that is already familiar with what this place is and can even post from their accounts

It sounds like they are OK with people using the tool, but he wants them to be mindful of how its being used.

But if you’re my colleague and we’re in a Slack discussion and you post a wall of Claude output, then I’m afraid I received a different message than you intended.
The same is true for people’s newsletters and social content. It’s your name on it; are you proud of the prose and weird AI-isms sprinkled throughout it? If so, great. But I can ask Claude directly if I wanted to.

TLDR: Take responsibility for what you send to people, and don't just ask a chatbot and blindly share the output

Once you get through the typing.com lessons, try keybr.com to identify and fix your weak areas. Eventually you can move on to monkeytype.com for casual practice

Assuming that there isn't a better extension out there for people to switch to, this move might push some people into quitting Facebook completely.

If you're using uBlock origin, then you won't see ads anywhere else. Meanwhile on Facebook, every few posts will be an ad.

I think it's a matter of how it's framed.

It was already going out of fashion in schools when I was growing up, and people did not like it when a teacher (usually older) made them practice it. The original argument of it being faster didn't apply once computers became common in schools/homes, and printed letters (writing like a typewriter) are better for clarity.

However, I think there is value to it when framed as an artistic skill. Calligraphy strengthens motor skills, and if you make the lesson less rigid then kids can have fun with it and figure out how to express themselves.

That already fell apart, they gave up after the site got overrun with bots. Coincidentally, they were planning to use "AI" to run parts of the site, including moderation

To be fair, I haven't used Chromecast in a long time. Maybe even 10 years ago now.

I remember having connectivity issues, where I'd go to pause the content and realize it disconnected again. So maybe the battery drain was because of poor connections, or poorly designed apps

Its nice to be able to use it with a remote instead of fumbling around with your phone.

Also performance, decoding support, not burning your phone's battery, etc
