Oh please. 2024 would not have turned out any differently had either of them put in a candidacy then. For one, neither had the name recognition then that they do now. More importantly, Biden ran. Nobody else was going to win the primary. When Biden finally stepped out, bringing in some new candidate that a lot of people hadn't even heard of would have been even worse. That whole episode in Democratic politics was a shitshow, but none of the blame for it lies with Newsom or Pritzker or any governor.

When it comes right down to it, the 2024 election was decided by a relatively small number of voters (and non-voters) in a handful of swing states, of which neither Illinois nor California are.
