For that second function cheating matters very little if you don't get caught.
For the first function, it might also not be super relevant. I had to take a humanities class for my computer science degree. If I had cheated on the theater exam it would not have made me a worse programmer. 😄
Is the singularity coming though? Exponential curves have a way of stopping. This can be s-shaped where it ends at a new level, or it can crash, or other fun shapes. In the real world things don't go to infinity... except for actual singularities (mostly black holes).
Moore's law has basically ended, for example. Chips aren't doubling the number of transistors every 2 years anymore (since 2010 or so). Cell phones have stopped evolving recently, and are basically all identical now.
My grandmother was around when the first car arrived in her county, when the Wright Brothers first flew, when radio and television arrived, through commercial flight, when the first satellite orbited the earth and when humans first walked on the moon. She got a phone and the Internet, lived through the discovery of the shape of the DNA molecule and vaccines that wiped out smallpox.
In the USA the y changed from having the KKK being a powerful party to having civil rights laws and banning Jim Crow laws, through the roaring 20s and the great Depression, and through the New Deal and Reagan's dismantling of the guardrails that kept capitalism surviving without killing the host.
I'd say the changes of the 21st century so far - while noteworthy and important - are not faster than the changes of the 20th century.
To be honest, I think the changes of the 19th century were even more massive. The step function of work being limited to what humans or animals could do to machines altered our society and our relationship to the world in ways unequalled since agricultural societies evolved. Railroads, telegraphs, electricity, steam ships. We discovered germ theory and electromagnetism and evolution. Amazing.
I use MoCA at home, 1 GBit. It works pretty well, and I get almost full speed.
Every now and then I have some blip and have to power cycle on one of the coax-to-Ethernet connector, so that's annoying. It's like twice a year, so not a huge problem.
The biggest drawback is high latency. It's milliseconds instead of microseconds in the house. I guess it's buffering and framing, so maybe unavoidable.
I also do see some small packet loss. Less than WiFi, but not zero like you'd see from a proper Cat6 cable.
Maybe just but a pair of MoCA adapters to try in your setup?
We were so close to a phone usable by non-enthusiasts with the Nokia N1. The Nokia Linux phones were killed when Nokia hired a former VP at Microsoft to be their CEO. I'm still bitter.
I thought vaporware was announced or promised code that never materializes, or shows up much later than claimed. Often used by big companies to squash competition, who typically have very real solutions available.
