  • There was a pretty extensive study conducted around the 1930s on how to best engage with a Nazi. Punching isn't bad per se, but it requires you to be in dangerously close range; and they tend to get back up following the punch, so it's a very temporary solution. High risk, low reward.

Best practice is bullets and bombs.

  • Stupid is to Idiocracy as malice is to real life.

I mean, there's plenty of stupid to go around in this hellhole we've created, but that isn't what's driving humanity into the dirt. Our issue is that humans are fucking evil, and we'd crank up our neighbor's suffering for a quick buck.

Idiocracy is a utopia compared to the future we're spiraling into.

  • I mean, considering the literal complete absence of a single person in the military who takes their oath seriously, if it comes down to an internal maga power struggle to depose any members of the Trump regime, I'll take it.

I've got a bottle of champagne on standby, and it doesn't care who pulls the trigger.

  • Yea, just like the oath of office/enlistment/commission instructs you to do!

"I do solemnly swear to submit a two weeks notice of resignation when confronted with a domestic enemy of the US."

    Good job!

...hmm, actually now that I type that out, it doesn't look quite right. Oh well, I'm sure the gist is the same even if I'm paraphrasing, right??

  • Embrace the Bifröst! The OG queer road!

  • Sharp rise in PR stories to make a product feel more capable than it is, bullshit detector finds.

  • The problem is that they make republicans aroused, cuz their only engagement with drag shows is what their searches for it on PornHub yield. And that makes them confused. And that makes them violent.

Key word trends on porn sites in red sates is a fun little rabbit hole.

  • That stance will only ever resonate with those of us who already agree with you. Dumbasses liken abortion to murder - which it's not - so they basically hear you calling for murder to be legalized and to leave it to the individual to decide whether or not it's okay to murder.

You will not change their minds on this, because they think it's part of their religion. Which is also incorrect, at least if we're talking about Christians (no idea on the others). IIRC abortion is mentioned in the bible twice: once is basically accidental, dude injures a pregnant woman in a way that causes her to miscarry... and the biblical punishment for such a heinous crime? He owed her a fine. The second mention is a fucking how-to guide; dude thinks his wife is pregnant because she cheated on him, so he's instructed to make poison by collecting shit off the temple floor and forcing his wife to drink it. If she miscarries, then she cheated! Burn the witch! If she doesn't miscarry, then the kid is his.

Pretty sure that's it. There's the christian take on abortion. 'Course, we all know the culture surrounding christianity doesn't actually adhere to its own lore. If some preacher hears Fox say it's a mortal sin, then I tell you h'what, that thar's a gosh darn sin!

For argument sake, my thought would be redirect that shit and liken it instead to triage. "Sure, that clump is a human, why not, but so is mom, and when shit hits the fan, mom takes priority" but... I'd guess even that approach is a waste of breath. They won't hear it.

  • That only works if you get a numbered response.

Respond to my email in a stupid way, the next ones will be stupid proof. Whether or not we're friends is up to you in this case, but if I need to treat you like a kid to get the information I need, you better believe I'm gonna.

  • ...every single time I've run into that wording, it's in response to a question that their initial email doesn't address. You've never run into that?

Usually it's when I have multiple questions lumped into one email, they answer the first one and ignore everything else, then get butthurt when I ask for a follow up. They can "I already fuckin told you" all day long, but they didn't actually already tell me.

I've since learned to keep work emails at like a 3rd grade reading level. Couple sentences max, one question per. If I have lots of questions, they'll be slowly trickling into your inbox spread out over a week or so. And if they start getting snarky, I start CCing their and my supervisor.

Welcome to any and every industry that uses email.

There's an even better trick too: skip the fucking email and just go knock on their office. Gets shit done 10x faster.

  • Rules > New Rule > Title/Body contains: "as per my previous email" > Permanently delete.

Life's too short for that petty bullshit.

  • Teen Boys Men of all ages Are Using Meta Glasses to Terrorize sexually harass Girls women of all ages at High Schools and Middle Schools everywhere.

  • Why are Republicans

    <insert act of cruelty here>

    Evil is as evil does.

  • ...idk fellas, ya might want to just leave this one to the Satanists. Stick with the Gregorian chanting and call it a day. Also stop fucking altar boys.

  • The issue has never been that they don't see the hatred and bigotry etc; it's that they do see it and fucking love it. A hefty chunk of our voters are just as evil as Agent Orange himself, they just don't have the power to act on it like he does.

  • I work in healthcare, I meet people grieving pretty regularly. My opinions stay at the door - I'll even go as far as praying with patients, and I don't have a shred of religion in me... to the contrary, I fucking despise religion; but if that's what brings them comfort, then fuck it, I'll play along.

Your case is basically the same gig - if having a mom urn brings you comfort, then you do you. Difference is that you already know my opinion, so we're bashing heads right out the gate, but I'll remind you of the thread topic to proclaim an unpopular opinion that we know doesn't mean shit.

I don’t know what else you wanted us to do instead.

Dude, you don't need to justify your decisions to me, and you certainly don't need to change your behavior based on an internet stranger's 'hot take'. Where you see comfort in ceremony, I see an industry that relies on predation of people during an extremely vulnerable time. Engaging with that industry makes me feel taken advantage of; but there's a lot of social pressure to conform which makes it feel even more uncomfortable. Our opinions don't need to be reconciled.

  • Eh, there's a line to be sure. if folks want to have a potluck in remembrance of a loved one, I have have zero issue with that. I guess it's more the industry surrounding it that offends me - the expensive venue, specialty vehicles, the resources dumped into making a fancy box to keep the corpse in, and then just bury, and ofc the insanely wasteful use of land to give basically housing to corpses. It all feels very exploitive, like you 'owe' your dead mom the nice polished marble tombstone. ...and I'm here to tell you, your dead mom doesn't give the tiniest shred of fuck what her tombstone's made out of. Or that she has a tombstone at all.
