  • I'd say it's pretty hard for a woman to both have enough experience to be taken seriously as a candidate and simultaneously have no past baggage or party agenda.

And I don't think most male candidates are held to that standard, either.

The misogyny is palpable. In the country as a whole.

  • You probably type too fast for the old typewriters and don't hit hard enough, but you'd adapt. And don't forget the carriage return!

  • Trump is directly responsible for Kavanaugh, Barret, and Gorsuch. That alone has been destructive already and will reap us tragic consequences for decades to come. Would Hillary have signed the ERA and gotten the right to bodily autonomy written into the law so it couldn't be "reinterpreted" away? Maybe. But she wouldn't have set attack dogs after it, and after trans people and immigrants.

  • Well of course it's not, there's no excuse. Gaetz is a predator who exploited and raped her, full stop.

  • Like I said I'm not excusing either Gaetz or the US. I also wonder whether she would have been more comfortable leaving her teeth crooked if she weren't in the US, unless it caused health or eating issues.

But it's here on Lemmy, and in years past on the other place, where I have heard people's frustration about teeth being separated as "luxury bones" under even the best healthcare systems. It goes back through history, separate schools, but the more we learn the more obvious it seems that dental care is healthcare.

From what I've read and heard, many poor people just don't get any dental care, whatever country they're in.

I wish for her sake she'd been able to find an orthodontia school where she could have gotten her braces from a student under the supervision of a professor.

  • Yes US healthcare sucks. And this particular story sucks. And Matt Gaetz sucks. But I just want to mention that many other countries with superior healthcare systems also suck when it comes to dental care. Despite the fact that a bad dental situation can have devastating health consequences for the whole body.

  • I heard the term "sixpenny nails" the other day (The Rifleman's son Mark was shopping to fix his chicken coop) so my inquiring mind was already primed to go look it up. Just needed that little nudge from you. Now we both know!

  • How does that compute with move fast and break things?

  • You forget he owns the majority of the SCOTUS.

  • The nation let's

    is what my phone "corrected"

    The nation lets

    to.

    Probably theirs did also.

  • Tbf, I've only good things to say about the people working at the VCA we take our pets to. I'm sure there's evil higher up in the corporation, because it's a superstructure that parasitizes the local offices and exploits the veterinarians and their helpers. Sort of like " health insurance" companies, nothing of value is added. But the hands-on people have only shown great care for animals.

Sometimes I think the way to sell universal healthcare would be to include pets. Although you'd never convince Kristi Noem.

  • Maybe their version of "rule the planet" involved mostly just hanging out in their den and thinking interesting thoughts.

  • Not all religions or sects think anyone who worships differently (or not at all) is doomed to damnation. Neither mine nor my spouse's for instance. I'm pretty sure Republicans are going to hell, though. Handbasket of deplorables.

  • "The president went on to claim that American ranchers were unfairly taking blame for the actions of what he called “Majority Foreign Owned Meat Packers, who artificially inflate prices, and jeopardize the security of our Nation’s food supply"

So, not the cowboy cattle ranching types.

  • Agreed although apparently use of the meme is now expanded to include anything that sends us back to 1984, so it could mean "that's an old joke" or "women these days appreciate a big stick, that's outdated sexism."

As an old woman, I disagree though. Big sticks should be appreciated in Nature and then left for someone else to enjoy. That's not sexist. And OP's comic is new to me. It's also adorable.

  • Yes, thank you!
