  • And loud motorcycles.

And the ice cream truck playing jingles. I am not a fan of people driving trucks into neighbourhoods and playing loud music to advertise.

  • First explain problem briefly. Wait for response, then: "Talk with human"

Works on most bots I have talked to. My theory is that they want to have some context before the talk. Maybe to route it to the correct representative. Or just that you have given the bot a shot at helping.

  • Honestly the thing I kinda care more about would be a fully developed sandboxed permission controlled system like Android, just with the storage permissions like GrapheneOS. I know there are some support for this, flatpak & flatseal etc. but it is not prominent enough. I want it to cover everything, like android.

  • I suggest you tell her that this is a problem, and that this is affecting your friendship. That if she does not try to educate herself, that you will have to reconsider the friendship.

Tell her that trans people have something called gender dysphoria. Reference Wikipedia and DSM. Prove that this is a real thing. Just like her autism. The best would probably be to just send her a couple of links with a short, but honest take on how this is a problem for you. Let her read it herself om her own time.

The last thing you should do is let the friendship end without talking to her. Its important to confront people, and give them a chance to change their mind. People deserve that.

  • I would like to have the same sound. But increase the volume, duration and lower the frequency drastically.

I want people not only too hear them, but to feel them. When I play my trumpet at night I want to wake my neighbour.

  • Rich parents

  • I wouldn't say this is an insane take from that person, or misandrist really. I have no other meanings in regards to what that person says, but in this case this is a sensible take.

The whole meme is about how women are "hysterical" and overly emotional. While men are calm and chill creatures.

It caters to stereotypes that view women in a negative light. I know exactly zero women who act like this. Most women are calm and chill people as well. Unless you of course call them hysterical or overly emotional, then they can rightfully get a bit mad. You would probably react that way also. It kinda infantalizes you.

I would as a man, expect my best friend to tell me if he's moving, expecting a child, or is getting married, within a reasonable timeframe. That is within a couple of months.

  • Thanks for clearing up the facts around this. I updated my comment above.

  • This seems like an attempt to undermine NATO. The only time article 5 has been used was after 9/11.

By saying Europe had a choice and should have resisted, he lays the foundation for the US to not follow through on their NATO commitments.

Edit: The commenter below is right, the article 5 was used for Afghanistan, not Iraq. My whole argument is thus invalid

  • It depends on how you view the parent/child relationship. In most countries parents have a sort of "ownership" role of their child. A right to raise them in their own way, religion and traditions. It is THEIR child to teach, and raise.

This has become pretty contentious in Norway, and Norway has lost cases child protection cases regarding this in international courts. Our child protection services has taken children from their parents and that has ended up in international courts in some cases. This is due to a difference in opinion in what is acceptable and OK ways to raise a child, and what constitutes the rights of the parents and the rights of the child. In some of these cases Norway have rightfully been convicted. But you won't lose the ability to raise your child in Norway over nothing, as some people will have you believe. The child protective services can't explain why to the public, and the parents can pretend to be innocent.

Personally I believe parents do not own their child. I believe parents are in a privileged position and lucky to be allowed to raise a human (yes, also biological), and that the privilege should be revoked if the parents are not sufficiently fit to raise the child.

The perspective of ownership is harmful in my opinion and does often conflict with the interests of the child in my opinion.

Should the child get vaccinated? Yes, exceptions are only allergies.

Should the child be home schooled? No.

Should the child interact with peers at the kindergarten and school and get the social skills they need? Yes

What sorts of punishments are acceptable?

Should the child be heavily involved in religion? No, but should learn about it, and can in a limited degree practice it. But no religious schools, or religious camps. Genital mutilation should not be allowed for boys either. If they want to, they can do it as adults. Doing unnecessary surgery on a defenseless child due to religion is in no way acceptable.

If the parents are neglecting their child, how much neglect is okay before the right/privilege is revoked?

If the parents are addicts, what then?

    Etc.

  • I do the same 😄

  • Oops

    Jump
  • Yep, and the biggest letdown. I expected the main quest to be meh, but side quests to he pretty fun.

They had the opportunity to create a really cool mission out of this, but instead created one of the most interesting stories and least fun questlines.

  • I was locked outside of the house for long periods of time and had to drink from the garden hose / garden faucet, and pee in the bushes. We also had like 10+ apple trees. It wasn't that bad. A bit boring sometimes.

But that's because it was outside and I could get my needs covered and meet friends.

Locked inside without these needs covered for extended periods is a lot worse in my opinion. Even cats and dogs have those needs covered.

It's also about the lack of freedom when locked inside.

I would not treat my own children like I was treated, and especially not like you were.

  • I subscribe to a lot of full time "content creators" that are ad supported and supported via donations.

I curate my feed meticulously to avoid slop, and I get a lot of value, learning and entertainment from those I follow.

I believe they deserve to be paid for the tremendous amount of work they put in.

Some sort of ability to generate a livable wage from creating high quality content seems reasonable, no?

  • There is one thing that is vital that is missing from peertube. Effective monetization.

By watching on peertube I am a drain on resources. A net negative. I'd happily pay to offset those costs and more, but I want it to be shared amongst multiple creators and hosters.

I don't want to just support one, I want to support most of the network for the hosting and bandwidth, and a certain amount divided amongst the creators I watch.

If PeerTube introduces some sort of payment / monetization solution, it might get more creators as well. Without it I can't see it growing fast enough to compete with YouTube in the near future.

Well.. Sooner or later the costs of Full HD compressed video will be negligible for hosting and bandwidth, so that might be when YouTube gets a real challenge. So I guess we'll see

  • We need some sort of "immune system" to handle these extremes, deplatforming is kinda like moving the disease to another part of the body where there is no "immune system". Defederating might create the same effect.

I don't know how to handle it, but we might need more "normal" average people participating in a compassionate understanding way, with those that have lost their way. Because right now there are plenty of Russian bots that encourage the wildest conspiracies and world views, but also plenty of people with idle time on their hands encouraging it also.

We will meet this challenge more and more as the fediverse grows. At this moment it's not worth the investment to spread misinformation probably.

  • Fucking Kanye...

Runaway and Ghost town are fantastic songs.

There only two tracks I would pirate, and it is those two. I don't want to support him financially.

  • Thank you! I'll check them out and probably add several to my RSS reader.
