  • He's not very socialist, no. But based on your take that socialists on the west are imperialist simply for existing within an imperialist nation, something tells me you think anyone who's the enemy of the USA must be great. (Do correct me). And that usually ends up being tankies.

He's been outspoken on the genocide in Gaza, at least. Which is one of the USA's proxy imperialist projects.

USA, Russia, China, they're all terrible in their own way. We don't get to choose where we're born.

I'm a socialist (edit: not a "democratic socialist", like actually a socialist who wants revolution and institution of a worker controlled society) in Australia. Am I okay with imperialism too because of Australia's actions?

In conclusion, Mamdani isn't gonna bring about socialism, but he's certainly not as bad as you're describing (that I can tell, so far).

  • Isn't he self-described as a "democratic socialist"? (I mean, his faction aren't super radical socialist as far as I'm aware, in terms of trying to bring about a workers democracy. The NYC "city run" grocery stores are just contacted out, not actually city run. But hey, it's way, way, way better than what other US political factions are doing)

  • End capitalism. It's no coincidence all these countries are pushing this in lockstep.

End goal is the death of online freedom.

Get angry, get involved in your local politics to bring democracy to the workplace and the economy.

It's not gonna get better otherwise.

  • If they try to retire classic outlook I'm gonna riot.

Windows 11 is bad and I was unhappy when I got moved onto it, but is bearable. New outlook is unusable if you get a large number of emails every day for work.

They decided: let's rebuild it with none of the features!!

  • It's funny because in Australia it's even non-religious (well the churches I've heard of).

That's how based the UU is.

    All be welcome, yo.

Seek the truth and serve humanity.

  • No actually. Not American, and I don't like violence.

Hey, it's not a huge deal, but I'd just personally prefer to not unconsensually have to see people's downstairs bits.

Just a personal preference, but I do think it's a bit strange that in all other contexts (i.e. if you have friends over at your house) most people wouldn't take off their underwear in front of their friends, but yet, it's supposed to be fine and normal in a changeroom?

Again, I'm just having a little whinge on the internet. Nichts seriös.

  • Am I the only one who thinks it's weird change rooms are they way they are in the first place?

People who feel like they can get naked - no, no you can't. Go to the private shower cubicle!

Or go to a nudist beach yo

I will not apologise for being a prude haha

  • TIL "get fucked" is more commonly used in Australia. I thought this was international.

  • You'd think they'd change DNA test methodologies so this sort of thing doesn't happen again

  • The irony of having this in the middle of the article

  • From one socialist (me) to another (you, presumably), the lemmy.ml hate comes from:

    • Conservatives who dislike socialism
    • Liberals who dislike socialism
    • Socialists who think Stalin and Mao were anti-democratic fuckheads, and don't enjoy being around "socialists" who like them.

I like Lemmy, but can at the same time dislike people who like things I consider to be authoritarian, even if those people created the platform in the first place.

Viewing lemmy.ml content on 'All-Top' is a rather happy medium for me, still get to see some of the best memes

  • America is a capitalist hellscape, but so is China.

Unions and strikes in-practice are banned.

They seem kinda equivalent on workers rights, to me.

  • I'm with you on being against capitalism, but UBI isn't convincing as a solution to me.

UBI pre-supposes that the rich and their corporations should have a monopoly on the means of production, and you still have capitalism, just that the population are guaranteed an income via high taxes. But the power structure, and undemocratic nature of capitalist controlling everything still exists.

UBI is some dystopian stuff if you don't combine it with getting rid of the ruling class and the other tools of capitalist oppression.

But yeah, I agree with you that we certainly ought to be working less than we are (yes, even if standards of living were more fairly distributed to poor countries), and in the future I also agree with you that we ought to be working way, way less of technology allows for it.

  • No worries friend :)

You can place things anywhere down to the pixel, not just snapped to a grid like with Nova (though, there is option for a grid of apps, also).

It's a bit of fiddly process if it's complicated, but you can layer and place things however you want.

There is no dock, you can however pin items to show on every screen, which is basically the same thing, so that would also fit that criterion.

Also 4 swipe directions on icons for extra shortcuts beyond tap (last I used nova, it was just up and down? It's been many years).

Basically, can highly recommend Total Launcher, though in fairness, I have not tried some of the other launchers listed by others here.

The one time fee for pro is pretty affordable, iirc. The Dev is also pretty responsive via email

  • If crazy levels of customisation is the reason you use it, Total Launcher did the trick for me.
