  • Just to add additional context.

    This is Cory Thiesse, who won silver in "mixed doubles curling", with her curling partner Korey Dropkin on February 10th.

    Cory is also a member of the women's standard (4 person) curling team, who at the moment have a chance of also winning later in the week.

  • Gods what an episode!

    I wasn't sure while I was watching, but I really liked how they brought Ser Arlan into the sequence. Telling a little story of Dunk as a parallel to Egg. I would have loved to see more fighting from Lyonel Baratheon, but this is Dunk's story (and Egg), so they deserve center stage.

    And of course the Baelor reveal. I knew it was coming, but it's so hard to watch.

  • First off, I love it. Get this boy in more interviews.

    Second, the second half of his statement is interesting, "...but we don't know if Egg survives yet."

    Which makes me think that this may not be 100% "Dunk survives Summerhall", but "Dunk survives the process of making dragons" or "Dunk survives the initial fire". The "yet" to me says Dunk is alive, and the fate of Egg is unknown.

    I think George told part of the story of Summerhall, but not the full story. Like if the Hedge Knight story ended at the reveal of Egg as a Targaryen. That would be a surprise, but not the end of the story.

  • So a hit piece is only effective when read by humans. This is a first of its kind example, and likely was at least prompted by a human, if not written by an actual human. Additionally while social media is full of bots, it's humans who are actually affected by such a response.

    If I say you're "stupid", it matters. You can ignore me sure, but at face value it matters. As far as I know I've never commented on a post of yours, so you could write me off as a worthless troll, but in theory it matters. But a bot calling you "stupid"? That really doesn't matter. If you know you're talking to a bot, as they exist today, then that really doesn't matter.

    Society may change on this issue, but as it stands now a bot publishing a hit piece... That's worthless.

  • I really appreciated the breakdown of the two sides of our upcoming battle.

    Also, while I'm bummed about some of the cut lines and characters, I appreciate the honesty of the show runner. Hopefully will keep him grounded and we won't have the show runner thinking they know everything and more open to feedback.

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - Episode 5 Preview

  • The opening of this trailer is interesting. I don't think we know much of anything when it comes to a young Dunk.

    Obviously this episode is going to be a hell of an episode, so I'm really interested to see how they're going to weave together some young Dunk stories (which I don't recall being in the book) with the Trial of Seven.

    Also poor Baelor and his last line.

  • After the pace of the last three episodes, this one could have used a little more time to clarify who is on each side. I'm sure we'll get a full rundown before the battle next episode, but this one was just blazing fast.

    That being said, what a closer of an episode. Baelor is such an excellent man.

    I don't think the knighting of Fossaway worked as well because we didn't see Dunk's internal struggle. I know it's technically meant to be ambiguous and of course we had Ser Arlan appear during the knighting, but I think something extra would have been nice there.

  • As a book reader I was surprised that it took until episode 3 for the reveal. I figured it would be episode 2, and was a little worried it would be episode 1, but this was done perfectly. It gave time to build where in this world we are an who are characters are (as people).

    But I completely agree that Egg being a Targaryen adds a whole new element. Plus it gives Dunk a little bit of plot armor. As we see and as we saw, Dunk is a bit stupid. Without Egg, Dunk was about to be severely injured, if not killed outright. But with Egg, he can be the knight he was raised to be.

  • Oh I meant specifically when they're on the bridge after the riot. Egg just looks like raw rage. In context he saw his brother purposely kill a horse, as did everyone else hence the riot, and he's just a 9 year old kid.

    So he's just being human, but it's a side of him we haven't seen. Up to this point he's just been a sweet and mysterious young boy.

  • Why would the soldiers take orders from Egg over Aerion?

    I think you're right that they're not Kingsguard, their outfits were different and I think you're right that they're following Maekar's orders. I just think that finding Egg/Aegon trumps whatever other orders are going on, even if by accident. Imagine returning to Maekar and saying, "We found Aegon, he ran off, Aerion wanted us to kill some random dude." They're not going to risk that.

  • So we have three Dunk & Egg stories so far, and 12 other stories that have at least a sentence or so that outline what that story is.

    There are two "confirmed" novellas,

    • The She-Wolves of Winterfell, which based on the name probably takes place at Winterfell.
    • The Village Hero, which is said to be taking place in the riverlands.

    Now it's possible those, having titles and being written somewhat, exist on top of the 12, but lets say they were 2, so we have 10 left.

    • The Wall, at the end of The Sworn Sword that's where Egg wants to go and Dunk also thinks that maybe his father is there.
    • Oldtown & Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, Maester Aemon lives there, they visit him in a line of text, and we know Dunk escorts him to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.
    • King's Landing, Egg becomes King and Dunk Kingsguard. They have to be there at some point.
    • Wendwater Bridge, the climax during the Fourth Blackfyre rebellion where Dunk brings it to an end. I don't expect the story to be during the rebellion, but probably just after.
    • Storm's End, at some point Dunk has to fight Lyonel Baratheon after one of Eggs kids refuses a marriage.
    • King's Landing (Winter), Dunk loses to a young Barristan Selmy at a tourney.
    • Summerhall, the tragedy that ends our heroes stories.

    So that's 7, roughly maybe in order.

    But also at some point he has to do something "Tarth" related because Brienne is somehow secretly related to him.

    So that's two more free squares that I don't really have any ideas about without just making things up completely. So let's have them travel to Essos for a little bit.

  • Ser Arlan is quite the knight. Dunk really knows how to tell a story about him.

    Also heartbreaking to see Dunk sell his horse Sweetfoot. With all the lessons Dunk is giving to Egg it would have been nice if Egg could have seen that one. Although it was also a tender moment between a man and his horse, so maybe that was the best version.

    I'm a little confused why Egg asked to be put down off of Dunk's shoulders during the opening joust. He looked at his hands, and then asked to be put down, but I couldn't figure out why.

    I'm assuming he wanted to get down so he wouldn't be recognized, but no one seemed to recognize him.

    I also like when Dunk asked him how he knew about Ser (? Crabs). Just likes fishing, no other reason.

  • I had only been thinking of Dunk and Egg novella spoilers, I completely forgot about "The World of Ice & Fire" spoilers.

    I have to imagine one of the 12 stories George has notes on involves more of that story.

    With the stuff they've already added that's a much more interesting future story now.

  • This would totally be a series that I would devour if they dropped the entire thing in one seating a-la Netflix, even more than HoTD.

    Most of the reviews of the show I've seen are from people who DID get all the episodes in advance. One thing they've mentioned and I expect to hold true is that 30min once a week might be a little slow. Luckily the stakes are overall so much lower that it hopefully won't be so bad.

    (But I completely agree.)
