  • Astroturfing, data-harvesting, I feel like they're all made to fuck us over in some way.

Voice of Ron Howard cuts in: "They were."

  • They mean it doesn't work. "Vote with your wallet" is pushed heavily by billionaires. Almost like they have the biggest wallets...

  • Yeah. We hate our social media, and don't trust our government. Everyone else should absolutely ban our social media, yesterday, if not sooner.

Edit: And in response to lots of much more reasonable responses here, than mine: spot on!

The real wisdom is to ban our (United States) shitty social media's shitty behaviors, rather than playing platform bop-a-mole.

  • Yes. Like a straight line, truth and morality are attained through constant refinement. Like anything worthwhile.

A straight line is defined by what it is not. It's hard to be 100% sure that any given line is the shortest distance between two points, but it's easy to tell which between two compared lines is the more direct.

We should never hold our current path so sacred that we won't re-evaluate. But we should always choose the best path we know, and be brave enough to stick to it until we learn better.

  • So many great replies here, already.

But I haven't seen an answer to the "pitch dark forever" idea. I've had a perspective shared with me, which I think actually is more accurate:

The collection of atoms that currently think they're me will someday join other collections of atoms that think they're a rabbit, or don't realize they're a tree, and eventually, some will join a new collection that think they're someone else entirely.

If I leave the world a tiny bit cleaner or kinder then I found it, I'm doing a favor to those future collections of atoms that once briefly thought they were me.

  • Teach, fuck, prosper.

We seriously need a community T-shirt store. Lol.

  • Yeah. I troll through old Wing Commander-like titles for good SteamDeck support every so often, but then I realize that I also want to play with 3 friends.

Whoever gets this done will get my money.

In the meantime, there's Empty Epsilon which is Star Trek, rather than Wing Commander; and there's Starlink: Battle For Atlas, which at least has solid local co-op on a docked Nintendo Switch (but is sadly buried in DRM on SteamDeck, while also badly overpriced.)

  • Normies don't even know what DRM is.

Sure, they don't know what DRM is. But when it misfires and hits them, they still ask their techie friend for help, and techie friend is going to have an easier and happier time creating a new pirate then providing free tech support for DRM.

The end result of more DRM has always been more piracy. The only thing that has ever cut back in piracy was highly responsive cheap streaming services.

  • Our dumbass in chief is full of shit. He's dangerous in a lot of incompetent ways, but this one is safe to ignore (at least for now).

  • Yeah. Bought an election for a bum who doesn't understand loyalty or how to pay his bills. Lol.

    What a Dumbass.

  • Well this is going to cause some confusion when you and I get our IDs printed... Can't be helped, though.

  • Google finally figured out exactly what was needed to attract me back to the official YouTube client. (This is sarcasm.)

These Google statements include a lot of "we will if we have to".

Lol. We all know they already went all out.

Further adding DRM - which will 100% missfire and piss off their remaining legitimate users - isn't going to solve anything for them.

There may not be enough popcorn left in the world for what comes next.

  • I mean, fair point. But their super yacht still won't be quite as nice as it could have been.

  • Sure. I think actually stopped using VSCode due to this bug.

I couldn't figure out why my CSCode shells were always broken in some nuanced hard to diagnose way.

  • At this point, any of them.

Strictly speaking, fully loaded Kali Linux (or an equivalent build) so you can learn to do subversive things against adversarial networks.

But really, if you just want an operating system under your control, every version of Linux will do that for you.

But Hannah Montana Linux will do it for you with the most style.

  • That's some big toddler energy

Lol. Missed opportunity at a brand slogan, there. Could just put that on shirts, and everyone in the US would know who the shirt was in support of.

  • Yes, you can. A refinance with another lender exercises your right to pay off the loan.

As long as your loan doesn't have an early pay-off penalty, there's nothing your current lender can do about it.

And Most US States prohibit prepayment penalties

  • I would be good at this thread, but I think we've gone far enough.

Suffice to say, we haven't even mentioned Voyager yet. Lol.

  • Sure, the other Treks have had major threats to the universe, but they were being slow-rolled over a long season, or sometimes multiple seasons. They had room to breathe and do episodes that didn't advance the plot.

As a usual defender of Discovery - I absolutely agree here. CBS clearly wanted to do a Battlestar Galactica, just in case Star Trek was over.

As much as I like Discovery, I'll admit I'm sure I would like it more if they had settled down from the constant universe ending a bit more often.
