  • Beef is not cheap.

  • I just had to buy a replacement surveillance 8tb drive for my store, best price I could find was $380. I have to buy it, no option there. But shiiiit that sucked.

  • Yeap, that's exactly what I mean. Its not a normal timetable. And this crew is in a combat setting so those 16 hour days are going to be more on the full side. Zero shore leave and from how it is described, a low supply situation makes for unhappy longterm sailors.

  • But these sailors aren’t working 24/7 non-stop. Individuals have downtime to sleep, eat (obviously), and generally hang around playing video games, watching movies, reading, etc (this one is not so obvious). They would’ve had to bring an that stuff onboard before they left.

I mean they are at sea and doing the 24 hour work rotations, its not 8 hours of work with 16 hours off. Not sure about us vessels but other navy's I know of have multiple watches and while at sea your getting rotated though all hours. Its just not something you can expect from someone for these periods of time.

  • Eh, you can get to areas "outside" without much issue, not all the outside areas are the flight deck.

That being said, these people are crammed in there doing work on a non normal rotation 24/7. It can not help that they are not doing anything worthwhile and also nothing really effective.

  • Well if anyone wants to know how to have a shit navy and spend more then everyone else, here you are.

  • And the .com bubble the hosing crisis, the banking collapse etc. etc. It all seems like the same scam being redone over and over. Never the same but always alike. And now it seems crime is legal (if you have the capital backing).

I really hope at some point in my life the fuck ups have some lasting consequences.

  • The scheme requires an every increasing amount of new "investment" or the whole thing collapses. Is it more then a ponzi scheme? Sure, most normal schemes can't do what these companies can do but at the end of the day the scheme is still very much a ponzi structure.

These (non hardware) companies are not relying on fake revenue, they all post massive losses in AI on the regular and yet like some sort of massive lost cost fallacy the markets still keep investing. Maybe next quarter (insert AI) will start making money, but more likely it will all pop before. And the hardware companies making money hand over fist? They are getting bodied on the market (see the South Korean situation).

None of this is even unexpected or seen as odd anymore, the financial systems, markets, private equity and most funds seem to just treat the situation as normal. I have seen nothing but once in a lifetime financial fuckups every few years since I was in high school, and almost every one is in the end is just some ponzi style scheme that was always doomed to collapse.

  • Why is it that almost all big financial situations in my lifetime are Ponzi schemes?

  • "Evil Light" I think.

  • All of that is just not true, literally all of that huge wall of text. From the odd takes on somehow saying there is and is not examples of LLMs used in call centers that are complete shit (my example would be just to point to any AI agent call I have had to do in the last year) to the clear non understanding of how the speed of diction could be an issue shows that the wall of text you put up has zero substance. Almost as if wrote by chat GPT or the likes. The same issues in a call center for hotdog packaging and 911 will exist and saying "smart people" will handle one better then the other is one of if not the stupidest things I have seen in print.

Your odd hubris is why the world is going to shit. You are the direct reason why we live in interesting times.

  • As someone who worked in the industry, your trust is wildly misplaced. I guarantee someone has already said internally this will not work and was shushed by a sales manager.

And as far as "I am sure they tested accents" goes? HA they likely noted it was a mess and moved on. You think the goal is a functioning system, but it is not it is just to make the sale.

  • You talk as if they don't already have customer facing implementations in effect, and that those all suck and don't work worth shit. You also seem to think the "engineers" involved are custom doing anything and not just some sales person slapping a half baked product on every problem. When you get paid per deployed program, everything looks like a problem to solve with said program.

This is an issue of not having enough 911 dispatchers, due to the unwillingness to pay for them. The idea of putting in a chatbot, that can not even speed up diction let alone have any empathy is just wildly inappropriate in this situation. The fact is that these LLMs will (like in current deployments) most of the time have to pass the call to a person, drastically increasing time on the phone before action is taken. This is already seen in almost all LLM supported call centers, but a 911 dispatch is not a telecom company and more time on the phone is more death, injury and suffering.

  • Or just as likely never dispatches in the case of a real emergency. I have a hard time thinking of what could go right.

  • Oh I am sure putting a machine that's only goal is to say things that seem real is going to help that...

  • As someone who has made the occasional funny picture with the bingalator, how do you get to the point that you can not exist a day without some gen ai? Like how?

  • On the plus side it is rectifying the issue of being a country. Lets all hope we weather the change.

  • Daewoo is the one I wish was still here.

Fun part about Pontiac, they were where most of the Saturn people came from. So those people got to watch gm kill two of their dreams.

  • Pontiac says "hello" and Oldsmobile is hitting on Saab.
