she/her, A(u?)DHD, German, sometimes draws nonsense. Likes Doctor Who a normal amount.

  • familiar with German

Exactly. Different languages have different phonology that you have to be familiar with, there is no one way to "spell it like it's pronounced" (except IPA and even that can be tricky).

  • "Eichhörnchenschwanz" is spelt exactly like it's pronounced. Does this help you pronounce it?

  • "Let's see one upvoted opinion in favour of killing this healthy cat. Echo chamber!"

  • What about society exactly do I not understand?

  • Doesn't matter because it knows how to use it.

  • I'd argue human developers also enjoy finding bugs, they just don't like HAVING them.

  • a lot of people will sit on their ass all day and take advantage of it

And they'd be entitled to just that. That's the point: nobody being forced to work just to survive. You don't understand the concept.

  • True, I just wanted to phrase it in the terms of capitalism.

  • I don't follow?

  • At first, maybe. But that's the neat thing about capitalism and the free market: the first to lower their prices again has a huge advantage. There's always an incentive to operate at minimal profit.

Why wouldn't UBI and capitalism be able to coexist? It makes MORE capitalism possible, as it were, expanding its principles of supply and demand to fields such as employment. Right now, people need a job, any job, and if there's no job that fulfills your needs, tough - you take the shitty one and you'll like it. With a UBI, you could shop around for the perfect job, choosing the best offer, or not "buy" at all right now because the market doesn't offer what you want and it's not like you're going to starve without a job. Employers would be forced to make YOU an offer that YOU can accept and if they can't operate under these circumstance, tough. Capitalism in a nutshell, really.

  • Tea is an inefficient delivery system for caffeine. If there's no caffeine in it, it's a warm beverage that relaxes you. So why would the industrious German worker bee want to bother with tea bags when coffee is right there? Unless of course the bee is sick and needs to relax, doctor's orders, to get back to work as soon as possible. ;)

  • My husband is Northern German, close enough to England that he was horrified at the thought of making tea in the microwave. And he doesn't even really drink tea when he's not sick.

  • And? CEOs seem to be welcome there.

  • Everyone knows the best memes are those prepared in advance and committee-designed to be memes.

  • The Doctor is beyond any doubt and I trust them implicitly. Who knows which one you're even talking to with the other one, there's at least 17 different versions of them, all of whom have at best a basic idea how humans work beyond the medical stuff.

Edit: I was trying to be funny and make it ambiguous which one is which, but I failed lol

  • Seriously, there's nothing inherently wrong with remakes but why do it if you're not trying to make it BETTER? Or at least substantially different? Do a different take on the material, don't just swap the CG animated boy for a real life actor while leaving everything including the CG animated dragon as it was, for fuck's sake.

  • The infamous Handy that I'm typing this on.

  • If I didn't think it was funny myself, why would I tell it to anyone?

  • My younger sister started watching Sailor Moon in '96. I occasionally joined her to mock her for it. Then I noticed it was the absolute shit and I became a bigger fan than she was.

I unironically credit Sailor Moon (and anime) with changing the course of my life because, although it gave my bullies another target on my back, it helped me through school while at least keeping some semblance of sanity. I met my husband in the Sailor Moon online community of the early internet, I majored in Japanese at university, and I learnt to draw because I wanted to recreate what I saw on screen.

If my sister hadn't watched that dumb kiddie cartoon, I would not be where I am.

  • Being forced to stop doing a thing I'm in the middle of.
