  • Oh didn't catch that there was amemory upgrade, that does make it better. The 4 core one should be 25-30% of 2016 flagship phone performance and 12% of rpi 5.

    I wonder if low powered x86 would be viable

  • It's not the libre hardware tax that bothers me, it's that there's no smartphone with specs this low released since 2022. What I think about when I hear 'handheld computer' isn't something weaker than a midrange phone from 2016.

    With these specs the company needs to explain why they aren't offering more powerful options imo.

  • It's wild to me that 'enthusiast' devices in 2026 use 4gb of ram and 4xA53 or 6xA55 processors. Meanwhile similarly priced phones have 8gb ram, 2xA78+6xA55 processors, high refresh rate displays and all the other things a phone might have that this doesn't.

    I know that most big soc manufacturers don't have open firmwares, but this isn't even using a moderately powerful Rockchip soc.

    Such a weird thing that Apple keeps putting cutting edge top end processors in their simplest devices used by non-techy people while tech gadgets like this have old af low end processors

  • I understand why oss office programs can't display the 'transitional' .docx corretly, but why does it go the other way as well? When I export a 'strict' .docx or an .odf from my viewer why does it still sometimes look wrong when opened in ms office or a different oss office program?

  • Pretty sure narrow text width has been a thing for ages, even before smartphones. Unless you mean a newer, narrower style I guess. It's easier to read when you can see both ends of a line at the same time so even letters are written on portrait paper.

    And I'm not a web developer, but if I had to guess styling a page to limit the text width on a wide screen probably takes more effort, not less.

    I'm honestly not interested in arguing this further. There's obviously a significant mindset difference between us.

    To me answering a different question than what was asked and insisting that it was the question has two explanations: The person genuinely misunderstood the question, or they are intellectually dishonest akin to a politican trying to maintain their image. Both cases lose all their credibility in my eyes, even if I agree with their message. But it seems many people are okay with any manner of speech as long as the message is one they already believe in
