I’m going to tell people to do more than just vote, and to not think voting alone is adequate.
It’s not a hard concept. We are fighting honest to goodness, full-blown fascism now. No joke, no hyperbole. Of course you should still vote, but you also need to know that voting is no longer enough. It was always the bare minimum, and now we need to do more than that, because they will not give up power to the vote.
I’m a salt mine over this. And now that they have full power, because fucking snowflakes couldn’t even bother to vote on the local and state level, they will not give up that power. People are dying, poor families with disabled children are losing healthcare, trans people are under federal attack, science and education is being gutted, and on and on, because of political edge lords.
There won’t be another chance. Vote next time or don’t, it won’t matter because fascists aren’t going to just say ‘welp, I guess I’ve been voted out now’. Like we were saying, 2024 was the last free election if they won. But they couldn’t be bothered.
We knew all of this in 2024, and people couldn’t be bothered to stop it. Now they have full control, and certainly enough to either stop elections from happening or to rig it.
If you think full-blown fascists will allow a democratic process to take their power when they’ve already seized all the levers of government and can stop us, you’re mistaken. That’s why it was so important to prevent it when we had the chance.
It’s too late. The only way to stop it now will be to take it from them by force. Literally all of history shows that.
Unfortunately, the will to do that won’t exist until they’ve already committed the atrocities they’ve been planning.
e: he got away with an attempted insurrection the last time he lost. No way he won’t dial that up to 11 next time. Why wouldn’t he, and preemptively? And why won’t he get away with far worse?
Well that sucks, and I’m sorry. It sounds like you encountered an unhinged psychopath, like others here who had weirdos latch onto them for stupid reasons that had nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.
Not necessarily. Perhaps I’ve been lucky. I’ve been in charge of UX for very large software, and am an author. My identity has been very public since the late 90s.
I’ve had very vitriolic (and sometimes graphic) DMs and emails, but no death threats. Like I said, I guess I’ve been lucky.
I’ve had people annoyed with me, especially once when I did a drastic, much-needed, and long-overdue overhaul of a UI in software with millions of users (people hate even minor change in software they use every day, so there’s no way to not piss some of them off when you change things like that), but I’ve never, in all my time online since 1996, received death threats. And I used to make a hobby of arguing with actual Nazis on reddit.
No, obviously.
