  • Tried that for a while. The battery turned into a spicy pillow and nearly broke the keyboard from how much it puffed out.

    If you do that, make sure the laptop has a feature to keep the battery from charging to 100% at all times. UPSs with lead acid batteries handle sitting at 100% much better.

    That's what we did with anything that was distracting when I was growing up. You can have it on you, but if they see you using it. It goes into the principal's office until EOD.

    It's not super easy to find, but there are stores that sell just plain clothes before they're sent to print shops.

    But otherwise, it's kinda hard to find quality clothes with no branding on it. It's not like you go to a store and there's one plain shirt and then the same thing but with a big logo on it.

  • I'm old enough that I took my Computer Science AP test in PASCAL in pencil on paper.

    You can absolutely handwrite tests in any subject.

    You can also provide workstations with no internet access for programming if you need an IDE/Compiler/etc.

  • Yeah, it was kinda frustrating cause I was trying to start a group game. BUT, I just clicked around a bit and figured it out, took maybe 5 minutes (of people watching me).

    Before that I used Windows for my console PC, and I can honestly say that CachyOS is easier to use than Windows, and less likely for an update to break something.

  • I have two cars made after 2020. Both have a phone app where you can set the internal climate settings in the car. You wouldn't practically be able to do that from a keyfob.

    Both also allow remote starting from the phone, with a setting for how long to let the car run before it turns off again. From a keyfob it's normally set to 5 minutes with no option to change it.

    Both are quality of life features that aren't really required, but I do use them pretty regularly. If the internet stopped working on either car, they'd act just like any older car that didn't have those features.

  • Once the bluetooth stack updated and both steam and the OS were fighting for which one was doing the controller emulation for the nintendo switch pro controllers. I just went in and turned off the OS controller support in the bluetooth settings.

    That's literally the only problem I've had in... 9 months of this setup?

  • Well, most cars don't REQUIRE it, but most cars lose features if it doesn't have network connectivity.

    Good luck finding a car made after 2020 that doesn't have at least one or two features that require the Internet to function.

  • Oral isn't necessary and can overwhelm even very smart and knowledgeable students.

    Just require all work is turned in handwritten. Tests are also done handwritten.

    That's it. It's impossible to not absorb the stupidity of AI if you at least have to handwrite the answer.

    It's impossible to copy/paste an answer into a test if it's handwritten.

    The only thing stopping this is that teachers are used to the convenience of computer submitted work, remote learning, and disability workarounds.

  • I run CachyOS on my gaming PC. I installed the OS, installed Steam, and the only regular work I've had to do since then is clicking the "upgrade now" button every couple weeks.

    A real doctor's office does a full set of SAMPLE and OPQRST questions that would probably have revealed more information.

    And more importantly. A REAL DOCTOR'S OFFICE CAN BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR MALPRACTICE.
