  • Youtube and X is basically a private monopolies. They only care about the profit margins. Any and all extra expenditure to R&D or consumer satisfaction is just a cut to their profits today and since they don't have any real competition, so why raise quality of service above the bare minimum? Their only real selling point is that everybody uses them, so everybody will have to keep using them, if they want to be seen or access most things. they don't care if they serve slop, because you and me and the wider masses are going to eat it up anyway.

  • it's really inefficient to pursue such a massive research endeavor if ASML was just normally open for business. To do all that work was only justified by it opening a chance in domestic semiconductor production which is the real price for China. Now they are probably also wanting to compete in DUV machines in the future, to recoup the development costs, even if the real price is the self-sufficiency that they bring.

  • ASML is a victim of US sanctions and Dutch/EU spinelessness. China would never had bothered to pursue lithography as serious as it did if US wasn't continuously trying to stop China on every technological front. The Europeans let US do it in the hope and under the promise that China would never succeed.

  • US soldiers are cowards, not brave risk takers or supersoldiers, but they don't need to looking how US fights. The whole myth (inflated, but not totally ungrounded) that even allow US military to even operate is the idea that they are so technologically ahead to everybody that nobody is in any actual risk of dying or getting hurt and military is just some field trip for poor kids to get college. I guess it's kinda of a bravery when your wars are all air campaigns and your bravest and most machho soldier is some F35 pilot firing standoff munitions to some school 200km away.

    When it comes to wars US has all the freedom to choose target countries, that it thinks are weak, softened by sanctions and intelligence undermining, and not ready to put up much of fight. It has always been this way, and US isolated geography gives them this freedom to pick their battles, US never needs to play defense or think about long term consequences, since "war" is always something happens to somebody else somewhere else. The same goes for political imperative of American wars, any amount of bodies that can been seen coming back in coffins is too much.

    Lol, Us military is composed of the manliest of men, who are totally not insecure.

    Have they discovered that low T-levels are the cause in their performance against Iran? Also will retiring military personnel get bras as a farewell gift, since after a long career of TRT-treatment, their bodies can't produce any testosterone naturally?

  • Us strategy is to chase the latest frontier model and while they burn money to get to that economy solving model they just plant to get everybody hooked, so they can ramp up prices later and make mega profits. Chinese just see the AI as a productivity multiplier and expect the money to be made elsewhere, their models are open and their Ai companies work on a loss. US plan really expects that there is eventually A) no competition, and B) their shit can actually be so useful that soon nobody can live without them. Everything the Chinese do is just poison to US AI companies.

  • Does it go something like this? Those companies who buy the NAND chips to make AI accelerators, SSDs and RAM for data centers are the Microns customers, like Nvidia. Even if they are in trouble and know that the datacenters are not being built, they can't cancel the deals because that would call the bubble into question. They will have to take any markup deal that Micron gives, them because if they don't there will be nothing for them nor Micron anyway.

  • absolutely loves the idea of everyone’s computer usage going thru giant corporations because the Chinese government owns part of every Chinese company and doesn’t need a backdoor since they have a set of keys.

    We are still taking about NAND chips. Can you backdoor those? I would think you need to backdoor the controllers or smth at least.

  • It was RT USA, I assume that they still never felt that they had a freedom to bite the hand that fed them, but that was not why most of them were there, to focus on dunking on Russia. But not biting the hand that feeds you is the reality for every reporter that isn't totally independent.

  • The best propaganda is always the truth.

    When they shut down the RT America studio under the foreign agents law and direct TV intervention, they did interviews with the ex-RT dissident-esq reporters who were working there. I don't remember who, and who was interviewing, so take this with a grain of salt. When they were asked on the lines of how they felt working for Russian propaganda and information campaign. They said along the lines of that of all the networks they had worked on, they were never felt as free as when they worked on RT, and they were quite open that it was all part of bringing up narratives that would disrupt the American mainstream ones and create political disruption and doubt. Their handlers in Moscow knew that the best way to achieve this was just to give them reach and mostly uncensored platform and let them do mostly whatever they want, because they knew that just bringing out the truth was the most damaging thing to American establishment.
