  • They posted an explanation in the tesseract community, but it boils down to they want the fediverse to succeed and replace reddit, but there is a contingent of toxic users that they feel is hindering that goal so they precompiled a list for new instance admins.

    It's fully optional and can easily be disabled in the UI

  • The dev included an optional toggle to enable "toxic mode" which basically gives you posts and comments from all users and instances. A lot of folks on the "toxic" instances are choosing to interpret this as an attack.

    The irony is that throwing tantrums is how they ended up on the "toxic" list in the first place.

  • There was a Ted Talk a while back (I can't remember who) where they said "I have always wanted to give a Ted Talk... but when I got selected to do this I realized that what I really wanted was to say I had given a Ted Talk". Meaning they want to be known as someone who had given a Ted Talk, not actually go through the process of writing and delivering the Talk.

    People who write open source code do it because they like the process of writing, just like an author enjoys writing books. LLMs are for people who just want to be able to say they have written a book. People who slop-code aren't actually interested in learning how to code. Which is a fine toy for them to play with, but not sustainable (or reliable for others to use).

  • This was my exact journey, though I eventually landed on immutable Fedora with KDE. Zorin is a great OS but it's in a weird space because it's probably already too simple for anyone who knows what Linux is.

  • I think CWA is the most robust option out there. BookLore was vibecoded and behaved in the typical weird/unexpectedly way vibecoded apps tend to. I haven't tried the Fork of it, but CWA checks nearly all the boxes and is actively developed.

  • I can't help you so I'm going to rant about something not related.

    Gramps is great once it's up and running but it's so frustrating that you cant add a person and just add a residence or wedding date or birth. Noooo, you need to create the events and locations first and then create the person and link the events to them.

    Which is basically the opposite way humans think about lifetimes. I would kill for a feature of "Create new birth/wedding/etc event" from the person page.

  • I'm confused, Omarchy is MIT licensed. It means you can use it and keep all the rights. You are under no obligation to financially or politically support the people who contribute code and they do not get a say with how you use the software.
