    • What color was the ball?Grey, I suppose? It wasn't important until this question so it was kind of colorless, even though I could picture it.
    • What gender was the person that pushed the ball?Androgynous.
    • What did they look like?Nondescript.
    • What size is the ball? Like a marble, or a baseball, or a basketball, or something else?A bit larger than a softball.
    • What about the table, what shape was it? What is it made of?It was a rectangular table. It shifted from being smooth and grey to a lightly finished maple, then back again.
    • Important question:I didn't really think about these details until asked.
  • Call Her Daddy: title of a podcastQuestion: what did going on this podcast do for Harris?Answer: allowed her to reach young women in middle America that conventional news sources would not.

  • We need a new word for people with all the phobias. Bigot has lost its oomph, the pizaz, the gravitas.

  • I was reminded it exists today, does that count?

  • I live on the edge of a small town. Google numbers:

    • To the nearest convenience store: 4.7km, 1hr 4min walk
    • To the nearest chain supermarket: 21km, 4hr 38min walk
    • To the nearest bus stop: 18km, 4hr 7min walk
    • To the nearest park: 3.4km, 47 minute walk
    • To the nearest library: 4.7km, 1hr 3min walk
    • To the nearest train station: 20km, 4hr 31 minute walk
  • I haven't played it myself, but I understand there are mods to remove nudity at least, and I would expect the sexual violence as well. That would be a requirement for me to try it.

  • Fear and Hunger is a contender. If you aren't aware, imagine a JRPG where you kill god at the end, but you don't ever level up. Also the first enemy you fight is very likely to kill you, and has just as much of a chance of doing so on your 100th playthrough. Oh, and you start from the beginning every time you die.

  • Context is important, since the person saying this has a security detail and holds office where the threat of violence against them is real.

  • I think the point is that incentivizing people to have more sex isn't the answer to a declining birth rate.

  • The problem in marketing feminism to young men is it many of them have not personally experienced, or at least understood, how being a man gives them advantages in society as opposed to women. Young men also have a difficult time understanding how easily they can be viewed as toxic, creepy, or even dangerous without self control and respect for others.I wish I had an answer, most of the young men in my life are more right leaning and think "feminazi" is a legitimate wat to describe left leaning people.

  • To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand cropped memes. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of memetics and linguistics most of the jokes will go over a typical reader's head. There's also the high contrast color pallette, which is deftly woven into the message. Lemmy users understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike cropped memes truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in longing for the bottom half of the text, "Join our Discord". I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the meme's genius wit unfolds itself on their smartphone screens. What fools..

  • You didn't say, "can't be", thats why I said it's like you said that.

We didnt call it, "incel" 100 years ago when someone acted like an incel. If someone was making jokes and promoting a mindset at the time that would now be labeled "incel", then we can retroactively say the ideology they promoted fits our current label.

I am in the same conversation, and I hear what you're saying. I don't think you sincerely understood what I was saying the first time.

  • That's like saying someone can't be a homosexual in ancient Rome because the word didn't exist yet.

Like, in an extremely pedantic way you could say that, but it doesn't reflect what was actually happening.
