  • They don't have term limits, which is what you'd want to enforce I imagine.

  • The Gateway Arch is pretty neat. I've been there once, the entire city smelled like literal shit.

  • $70 million, if I remember correctly

  • Agreed

  • Adding context: Alpha particles can kill you, and are actually more lethal than gamma because alpha has so much more mass than gamma.Because of its size though, an alpha particule cannot penetrate your skin. However alpha is incredibly dangerous if you ingest it, giving it direct access to your soft internal organ tissue. When working jobs that had a risk of alpha contamination, we had to run constant air samples and take extra precautions to protect eyes/nose/mouth from an accidental "uptake."The good news is that alpha is only present really when you're working on the core, or primary loop. This rarely happens outside of refueling outages. Gamma will be the concern the rest of the time.Beta matters too, but as one might expect, beta is a little beta bitch.

  • So I used to be a radiation health physics technician in a commercial nuclear plant. Most field instruments bottom out at 0.2 milliRem/hour. Whenever possible, we wanted areas to be <0.2. if an area was 0.3 or 0.5, we didn't have to take any additional precautions being there because it's still incredibly low. That being said, a lot of man hours and materials are used to turn 0.3-0.9 zones into <0.2 zones.I don't have the energy to look into these proposed changes, and I doubt they are good purely because of the current administration, but I could see scenarios where not needing to be ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) would save a lot of time and money without meaningfully endangering anyone.

  • Short person: Securing employment and finding love are harder for me.Tall person: I know exactly what you mean, sometimes my knees bump against my luxury sports car :(

  • Reading comprehension?

  • I didn't accuse you, friend. I was just letting you know how it came across. I know that wasn't your intention.

  • Probably would include someone who says "I am a socialist." Hence calling it the Mamdani act.

  • Yes, but "slop" isn't.Also I watched this scene and the frame you're criticizing is just how this actress looked in the shot, so everything you're saying about her is just coming across as really misogynistic even though that's not your intention.

  • Wrong again. It looked the same in 2021 when this image was already circulating. It's a single frame from a panning shot where the actress is nodding her head quickly, and there is some out of focus camera work with lighting combining to make it look a little odd when you pause it right there. If you watch the clip you can see that moment.Sometimes people just look weird if you take a frame out of a video.

  • If anyone is curious where this comes from, and whether or not it is AI.

  • My point is that I don't think this is AI generated, I think it's a frame from human art.

  • Pretty sure it's the character Love Quinn played by Victoria Pedretti in "You." Another shot

  • Well they don't do any maintenance. And considering the plant only gets built if the NRC says so, I think they'll manage. NRC doesn't fuck around. It's also not a good look to Trump's base to deregulate nuclear safety; they're historically the ones more worried about that.

  • That's what the NRC is for.

  • Sunk cost fallacy is a bitch
