  • You are so wrong, I really do not know how to respond to that. Yes, not every song is on Spotify, but you are able to listen to millions of songs there. That is more than your local record shop was able to stock

  • But is this really a bot? This is a real person trying to help Lemmy by using a tool to post stuff. That's kinda different than those spammy repost bot that we can see on Reddit, which are farming karma in order to start shilling for some scammy product later on or to do political desinfo shit.

    There might be a discussion if it's really helpful to mirror stuff from Reddit to Lemmy, but I feel that this is the discussion every community needs to have on its own. In my humble opinion, it is totally okay to try to kickstart a community by implementing some kind of automated system to post content. Nobody will post to an empty forum and if a forum shows some activity even by reposting stuff from Reddit or a bot parsing some RSS feeds, that's kind of okay. It gives people something to discuss about the topic the forum is about.

  • Trying to remember how the world was before computers and the internet. It was really hard to look up information yet that you didn't have in your own home. You had to hop on the bus and go to the library searching through several books. That's one Google search today. You hadn't had the access to music, films, and so on. You can listen to nearly every modern song on Spotify versus those few CDs you had on your home or the songs that were playing on the radio. If you want to watch a movie you can do that. You do not have to wait until it's showing on TV with at breaks or go to some kind of rental store. You want to go somewhere, just fire up Google Maps, versus buy and paper map, figure out where you are, and still get lost. Global communication is free. Just remember how expensive long distant calls were and how you lost contact to people who moved away.

    The internet and computers really have made everything easier.

  • The used market is not there right know. Those EVs last longer and have had a lot of progress in the last years. That means that you do not have that many cheap used offerings as you have with petrol cars.

    People really need to think of petrol motors as consumption parts. Your engine will need a lot of mainenance and it also has a lifespan. That lifespan is shorter than that of a battery

  • Strava has the unique position that it is the de facto provider nearly everything does sync to. Even some chinese bicycle computer will sync to Strava, your obscure fitness tracker will too and that nice little app will also grab your data and display it. This nice ecosystem will end with these changes.

  • I mean ... why not? There are a lot of things in games that simply just suck. Some games are requiring you to grind to gain some arbitrary stats to proceed. Or you need to do some things again and again to unlock the cool stuff. You are getting stuck on some stupid puzzles and need to google a solution, which is hidden in some multipart youtube play through. Or you simply do hate underwater or ice levels. It's your game, it's your time, why shouldn't you be able to skip that?

  • The fediverse will run into this problem: Reddit is charging AI companies for access and all other big networks are increasingly making it hard to index them in search engines or to scrape them. The fediverse is different. We will see it getting more visible in search and therefore also in AI results, because it is accessible. Which means that people will come here and try to game the system.
