Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • I understand that Lemmy can be viewed as an answer to this question, but it's not for me. I'm looking for an actual forum, with a sense of community.

The community here is small enough that I've started recognizing names.

The whole decentralization aspect of the Feidverse seems great to prevent enshittification, or to prevent a billionaire from buying and tanking the place, but I don't really see it ever appealing to normal, non tech savvy people.

I don't understand what the gripe is. You're already here. The only nuisance is picking an instance. After that, you don't need to worry about it.

  • For me it depends on the program. For GitHub I prefer high contrast light mode. Also, I like that GitHub's high contrast modes aren't ugly.

  • On Mac you need a program to make your trackpad and scroll wheel scroll differently from each other.

  • Same in macOS. Stop hiding ".app"!

  • What's that?

  • Please understand that plenty of us do not judge people based on instance at all. I genuinely don't care.

  • I do tend to mix in plenty of water and food with my nights of debauchery,

    Hang overs are mostly dehydration.

  • My ADHD is not a super powerful and I'd give it up in a heartbeat.

  • What's annoying and nobody seems to grasp is that even if the tax was on the foreign producer instead of the domestic consumer, the end result would be the same thing. They wouldn't just eat the cost lol.

  • In my head as they evolve and learn how it works they customize their antenna to fit their needs. But yeah, that would be funny. Like Signs but shorter. They land somewhere quiet electromagnetically. Could even make it one of those super sensitive telescopes you can't take any devices near for a bit of dramatic irony. There are some frequencies that are more quiet than others but most are pretty noisy. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to time travel to the past and see how much noise there is compared to now.

  • Good luck sending messages that bounce off the atmosphere without RF though.

  • Because white light from an LED bulb is not all spectrums of light. It's 3. It's pure red, pure green, and pure blue that stimulates our cones equally so our brain can't tell the difference. Like how TVs can make any color out of just three colors of sub pixel.

White light from an incandescent bulb is all spectrums of light. Through a prism it makes a rainbow. White LEDs through a prism make three stripes. For more information of this and some visuals check out this article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_rendering_index

  • I've been thinking about how a species with a metal horn could evolve to use it as a radio and even a hive mind.

  • Like infrared and ultraviolet? Yeah, there are animals that see those.

  • I could also see push notifications about adding bleach tablets or whatever to it periodically if that's your thing. I have a smart fridge (probably the dumbest smart fridge you can get feature wise, doesn't do much). I can check and adjust the temperature from my phone and get filter replacement reminders. It can send push notifications if the door isn't shut which would be more useful if I had kids. Just because you don't think you'd have uses for it doesn't mean it can't be useful.

Again, with the huge caveat that the toilet be capable of manually flushing.

  • I mean, it could be. Imagine getting a push notification when it overflows. The lowest pipe in my house is a toilet. Luckily my wife was nearby but it could've gone worse if we didn't see for a bit.

  • I mean, obviously a manual handle would be a requirement, but I could possibly see it? Like the idea of an app controlled bidet is not that far fetched because they have a lot of buttons and settings (obviously I want physical buttons too).

  • implying threads about other issues are less serious.

    I never did this.
