Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • The ads make you gay

  • The "fediverse" are distributed online social networks using a thing called activity pub. Because they all speak the same protocol they can interact with each other. This is why Mastodon and Lemmy can talk to each other.

BlueSky uses something called AT. AT proto has three things to it where . The pds (I think it's called) is where you can choose to store your data. Relays aggregate those. Then you have to have a way to view it. In activity pub the first two layers are the same thing and we typically call them "instances". Running your own relay for AT is wildly expensive and to my knowledge nobody is doing it because of that. Not enough people use their own pds to store data to even really make it worthwhile. The vast majority of BlueSky users are actually using BlueSky itself. Even if you consider the fediverse to be things doing federation, BlueSky isn't really as federated as they lead you to believe.

  • Hi, I'm Nicole, but you can call me the fediverse chick!

  • I misread you as saying pencils are dust free.

  • You're just raising the question about why the pencils cost over $100 if all pencils are dust free. What was so special about them when the special pens were so cheap?

  • Ugh, look, I get it. I know TJ's Lesser Action Rune of Changed Files that the Greater version does now, but TJ's price structure is bullshit and I'm not paying for Greater just because he refuses to "support" us users of Lesser. I don't even have a damn Portal, much less a Summoning Circle! Why are you so worried about a backdoor to the hells? Unless I connect this sigil to the weave nothing is going to come in or out. This sigil is only for monitoring the moisture content of my garden by way of a spell scroll attached. As we both know, scrolls and sigils use two different elements to communicate. One is gold ink and the other is silver ink. I have to use TJ's Action Rune of Changed Files to see if the document has changed due to moisture. The scroll cannot directly talk to my watering golem's receiving crystal.

  • Omfg I read all of this for far to long thinking you meant casting spells with a lithp lisp. Like you might cast similarly named spells randomly. "Must be Skyrim, cool. Click! Minecraft doesn't have spells, what?"

  • Same here. Assembly is a little too high level for me. I don't like the assembler guessing what I meant. I like telling processors exactly what to do.

Honestly, modern CISC processors are also a little high level if you think about it. I don't want the processor guessing what I meant to tell it. I like telling them exactly what to do.

  • No, they're pointing out that it's a little silly to expect everyone to understand each and every later of abstraction fully before deploying code.

  • Many times the code we work on is built in abstractions we don't know about from top to bottom.

  • This symbol isn't needed for spells this long, but it's considered best practice and other wizards will make fun of me for not including it, even though it isn't needed.

  • The goatee on Sapphire instead has me dying. Never even seen this show but that's amazing.

  • Kim Kitsuragi from Disco Elysium.

  • Obviously my past experiences have made me who I am, but plenty of neurotypical people are unique and have skills too. I genuinely believe I'd be the same person I am today but "better" if I didn't have ADHD. I don't want to sound like a doomer, but it's genuinely difficult for me to do basic things. The narrative that disabilities are actually super powers is deeply troubling to me. At times it can even feel like toxic positivity.

I'm not trying to say you're doing anything wrong by describing your ADHD as such. I don't see a problem with it. I view it similar to the way some people who are deaf don't want to be able to hear. Nobody can dictate your experience to you. You know what is best for you. Individuals with ADHD saying things like that don't bother me. What bothers me is when neurotypical people do it or it's a trend.

I got into an argument with someone about this before. They were using the idea of hyper focus as being a super power. If the planets align and I'm able to hyper focus on what I need to be doing at the time and somehow I don't need to be doing anything else then sure, it's a super power. More often it's me being unable to stop thinking about something I'm fixated on for days. Losing sleep while I think about it. It distracting me from work. It distracting me from friends. Only to just suddenly leave making me wonder why I'm not interested in the thing I had been obsessed with for so long.

  • Scroll Reverser and Rectangle are the two I use and both are free. I've been using them with success since about 2019. I don't know how needed rectangle is any longer.

  • I get that. I tend to use dark mode, especially "OLED dark" on my phone because sometimes I'm on it in bed and don't want to disturb my wife as much (though they are a heavy sleeper).
