Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • Worst I've seen was at an old job. Another team broke up their project so nearly every Java class (file) was a separate Maven module. For folks unfamiliar with Maven, you may think that just means a different folder. That would be a Java package. Maven modules are compilation units with an entire XML file explaining the project with dependencies. So instead of their code being in one or , you know, less than five or so modules there were dozens. I wanna say a hundred but I don't want to exaggerate and don't remember.

Thankfully these were subprojects so they were still in one git repository and could all be built with a single invocation of Maven, but navigating it was a massive pain.

I try not to make assumptions about "bad code" but I can't think of any legitimate reason for that layout of one class per Maven project.

  • What does nth grade reading level even mean? Why doesn't it get corrected to an average of what is actual? In the context of adults I can understand, but I think I've heard things like Xrh graders having an average reading level as Yth graders. But if the average reading level of Xth grades is something (like some amount of words), why isn't that what an Xth grade reading level is?

I hope that makes sense. Like if you everyone how their school experience is and they all believe they had a "worse than average" experience, clearly about half are incorrect.

  • Then everyone clapped.

  • The bigger online platforms get the more I agree with this. It's hard to put into words because I haven't thought about it a ton, but basically it's like public speech is becoming a utility in a way. I don't know what it should look like and I don't know where the lines are, but I don't necessarily believe speech should be banned because corporations who own platforms don't like it. The hard part is aligning that with my belief that things like nazi rhetoric shouldn't be allowed.

  • From whom? A corporation hosting things on a site or the government deciding what's legal to say?

  • Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar

  • Me digging through Facebook for pictures of kissable people: "Can you blame me for wanting to kiss these people? They're all so kissable!"

  • Parental controls exist. Use them instead. I fucking hate this.

  • Women are awful.

    💀

  • Yeah, people always say things like "how can my dreams be so detailed if I only remember the past few minutes" and then when you listen to them it's never really more than a few minutes of story. Yes, it can be in depth and detailed, but your brain just isn't recording anything.

  • If you think I'm mirroring everything the other person said, why are you criticizing my words instead of theirs?

  • Nope

  • My beard isn't as long as what's pictured. But yes, I think that is how they do theirs. Mine is short. Longer than stubble but not really voluminous.

  • I second this. I hate the direction Duolingo is going in but it's still useful to me. I took two years of Spanish in highschool. Then ~10 years later took up Duolingo and have been learning more. I don't think it's useful starting from scratch. Also I don't think if you're serious about learning a language that it is a replacement for real tutoring or real conversations, but it prevents you from getting stale.

  • I'd probably just go over historical events in depth since then and argue that dreams are typically not this detailed, even if they do feel detailed. Barring that, I'd say that even if this is your hallucination, it's better to try to act normal and not do anything rude/dangerous in case it isn't.

I don't have any experience with acid trips, but I have a small bit of experience lucid dreaming. Not much. For me the clue was that mirrors don't work. My dreams are in third person (but so is my imagination). But when I look in a mirror in a dream it's never shown me my face. It always shows me the back of my head. Imagine you're standing in front of a screen and have a camera behind you. The camera is streaming to the screen. That's what mirrors look like in my dream (without the trippy infinite images, it isn't recursive lol).

  • MOUUUUUUUURR murrrrrr MOUUUURRRR murrrrr murrrrrrr thud (she drops her toy onto the ground)

  • I have many sayings for my cat and my dog but haven't made any songs. I have sung other songs others have made to them. Typically my cat is the making songs. She sings a sad ballad when she thinks she's home alone as she carries her toy until she finds us.

  • I'm fine saying "many people prey on other people's insecurities." I am not "making this about gender." I was mirroring the genders I was replying to.

  • I'm the opposite. My wife doesn't like my moustache but likes my beard. It's a constant nuisance that my facial hair isn't represented in video games.

  • That's me now! Yayyy!
