Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • Power bricks or USB bricks. A dongle is an adapter, so it has some sort of thing on each side (besides a power plug lol).

  • Damn, you know what would've been a good trade deal? Not touching anything and just letting it be instead of the tariffs.

  • You've fallen for a random shit poster who shit posts on a blog instead of tiktok or instagram or reddit or WSJ/WaPo Op-Eds.

You have been bamboozeled not by lies, not by damned lies, but by an idiot attempting to do statistics.

I thought I made it clear I didn't necessarily agree with it, but I guess I wasn't. I'm not saying this article is correct, just that it's likely what they were thinking of when they said it was "disproved" since it made the rounds a few years ago.

  • I'm not making an argument, just saying this is likely the thing they're thinking of.

  • They're probably talking about this. It's been too long since I read it so I won't be discussing it, but I'll share a paragraph so folks don't have to click the link to see the gist. https://economicsfromthetopdown.com/2022/04/08/the-dunning-kruger-effect-is-autocorrelation/

The Dunning-Kruger effect also emerges from data in which it shouldn’t. For instance, if you carefully craft random data so that it does not contain a Dunning-Kruger effect, you will still find the effect. The reason turns out to be embarrassingly simple: the Dunning-Kruger effect has nothing to do with human psychology.1 It is a statistical artifact — a stunning example of autocorrelation.

  • This usage here isn't part of the problem, but people on other platforms are making nastier memes that are in very poor taste. It's sort of spoiling the fun. And I think, possibly, because people here may not have seen more of the other stuff they might not feel as strongly.

  • You need to qualify this statement, GotHib Pages can mean like two or maybe more things. Do you mean free static site hosting? Do you mean easy static site generation from Markdown files?

Edit: GotHib 😭 what a typo

  • What do you want to be called?

  • Nice

  • Thanks ThotDragon, to me you're now the slut from across the fediverse. 🩵

  • LTT had multiple pretty bad scandals, didn't they? I recently needed to find some technical information and other places had better information. LTT seems to be more of a pop culture tech channel? I don't even really know how to describe what I mean. It's like the reviews are more like fluff pieces I guess? They aren't super duper technical. But I also don't watch them much so maybe I missed something.

  • I'm still mad that a contracting company made me take a general intelligence test and programming test before sending my resume to a client only for the client to reject me because I didn't have enough experience. Literally wasted over three hours of my life. Not to mention the general test they let me retake because I didn't finish it in time (if I didn't finish it that time I may have pulled the ADHD card because wtf that test was insane), so if they just let me retake it for basically no reason, they're basically admitting it's bullshit. The programming test was all questions about extremely outdated Spring (Java framework) concepts, like XML configs. Nobody uses that anymore unless they're maintaining something ancient (and based on the requirements for the position they weren't, they were using newer stuff).

  • I remember having to open ".zip.1" files lol. From the split zips.

  • I don't think they're reasonable or likable either, but if you ever want to have hope of "deconverting" them, don't call them stupid.

  • Start with not insulting them. People make decisions with emotions and explain them with logic. If you piss somebody off they won't listen to you.

  • Calling these people stupid will only make them dig their heels in. They're victims of propaganda.

  • Imagine a stack of glass cups. It gets tall enough that the bottom glasses break under the weight of the new glasses. Tada!
