Any pronouns. 33.

Professional developer and amateur gardener located near Atlanta, GA in the USA.

I'm using a new phone keyboard, please forgive typos.

  • I was tangentially talking about this recently. Our effects live on even after we die. It seems prideful to worry about your name being associated with them. This wasn't in the context of LLMs though.

  • Remember in what capacity? I don't think any of our (users in this thread) names will be a part of conversation or on anyone's mind in any meaningful capacity. I do believe that digital storage is getting better and that our names and information about us will still probably exist somewhere in 600 years. So maybe somewhere someone might see your name. But that's very different than "remembering", you know?

  • I grew up religious and don't think I'd heard that. Is it a Catholic thing?

  • The benevolent, uncorrupt, good thing for dictators to do is to abdicate.

  • Charlie "Empathy is Evil" Kirk?

  • Finally, somebody gets it. Everyone with a bit of IT backbone in them for used to knowing how to deal with Windows and don't realize it's something they need to relearn for other OSes.

  • Dude, people can laugh at a term while still being able to do "critical analysis" 🙄 "foot pound" sounds funny too. People can giggle about Uranus and still be astronomers.

  • I've plugged my phone in so many times and it doesn't detect shit. I'd rather stick with totp/email.

  • Hi, I can answer a little. I'm not expert, but I have done some shibari/rope bondage. The appeal versus something simple like handcuffs (or whatever other restraint) is partly that getting bound is more intimate. With something like cuffs over a bed rail, sure, you can still make it intimate, but it's just click and that's that. With ropes it is a process. You go back and forth, back and forth, slowly getting more and more restricted, feeling more and more vulnerable. It's much much more intimate. (It's also very aesthetically pleasing.)

In short, the foreplay is baked into the restraining.

If you're interested in trying it yourself (and yes, there are some things you can easily do on yourself, mostly leg related) my suggestions are,

    1. GET SCISSORS. PROPER BONDAGE SCISSORS ARE BEST but anything you know will cut the rope is okay. This is critical if you're doing stuff in yourself.
    2. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot or whatever and buy 100 feet of, I think it's like ⅜ inch Paracord. Get something that doesn't feel itchy.
    3. Cut it into, roughly, I think it's 2x 15 feet and 2x 30 feet (roughly) ropes. Longer is better because sometimes you run out, but it's worse because it's annoying to work with when you don't need the slack.
    4. Lingo! The term you want to look up is beginner shibari "double column ties". The "column" will be things like an arm or a leg or whatever. Starting with your legs is best. Another one you can try later in yourself is a frog tie but it's harder.
    5. Something simple like 2x of the double column ties on your legs will feel nice. One at your ankles and one around your knees. You can add a third if you want.

That's the extent of my knowledge and I haven't done too much more, but that's how you can get started with it on yourself if you're curious.

Bonus lingo: floor ties. These refer to things where nobody is suspended from something. So those are the things to look into if you want to go further.

  • It's and its annoy me because they both make sense for possessive. The only thing that really made me feel better is thinking of it's like his and hers. His and hers doesn't have an apostrophe.

  • Regarding license and licence, in American English it's just always license. So when in doubt pick that and claim to be an expat lol.

  • A vicious liquid!

  • One thing I'm realizing more and more as I type in a game in PC is that I'm only good at spelling the first half of words. I've gotten used to auto correct on phones and spell check in other programs. My errors are typically on the end.

Necessary and apparently are two common words I get wrong fairly often.

  • To me, I never thought the part about the titles was true. It felt very tongue in cheek. To me the bigger scandal is that it's illegal to subdivide land that small and sell it as souvenir plots of land. So even when you strip away the part that most people understand is a gag, you're still not even getting the thing they say you do.

Like if someone said "I'll send you a plastic crown to be pretend to be a king" but they never actually give you one.

  • You can show them even if you don't allow them to comment.

  • I don't mind it, but if the devs change it I hope they don't take the Reddit route that prevents you from replying to any comment chain the user is in, especially with how small Lemmy is. Direct replies I can understand.

  • Alright, reading this, I really feel you're okay. It's not like I've taken a poll or have hard statistics, but this really is not that strange. Sex can certainly be intimidating and it's easy to get self conscious because you're making yourself extremely vulnerable and such, but you really aren't describing anything that out of the ordinary, and I'd say it's probably a LOT more ordinary than you think. A lot of pornography and pop culture depictions of sex making it seem rough, but it can also be sensual and massage like. Maybe even moreso. Pornography focuses on what's appealing to watch, not what feels good. Pop culture is similar in that it isn't really about the feeling. Even when people talk about sex as if it's super rough it can also just be posturing. Sort of like dirty talk.

All in all, you've got nothing to worry about, but also don't be afraid to ask. I definitely relate to the last paragraph. It's super easy to see a perceived difference and think it's a problem. Sex is as much about empathy as the physical actions.

That said, some of the other answers about trying to date asexual (and ace spectrum) people may be good if you're nervous about all of this. They're probably much more willing to talk about these things and understand what you mean. It's worth restating that not all who are asexual are sex repulsed and/or want to avoid it entirely. Maybe even just to talk with, not necessarily date.

  • RAHHHHH this is embarrassing. You're totally right. I'm wrong.

    Ada Lovelace, forgive me!

  • Are you open to using your hands to pleasure your partner and receive your own pleasure through kissing? If so, I really don't think you're gonna struggle. Especially if you're open to using a toy on your partner. A lot of sex can be about taking turns where one partner receives and one gives and then they swap. A lot of that isn't always necessarily as physically enjoyable for the giver, but it can feel good to make your partner feel good.

Your desires don't seem so far out of the norm that you will have trouble finding a partner, but that may be partly based on being in a different relationship myself. My wife doesn't want penetrative sex or any stimulation of any kind. They're demisexual/asexual. When we were younger they wanted some, but now it's basically nothing. It took some time to mentally accept that I wasn't being a bad spouse by only receiving. (Like I was part of the statistic/meme about men not being able to get women to orgasm.) My spouse simply isn't interested in it.

Sex is an extremely intimate thing. Any sexual partner you have is going to want different things. Your experience with them all will be unique. I really believe when you love someone you'll find a way to make each other happy. Don't worry about it too much.
