    Waaaaaaaay less than the people who have used their power to corrupt said system.

    In the 2024-11-05 US House election there were 149.5 million votes (I don't know how many eligible total), and 0.2 million voted Green.

    In the 2024-11-05 US presidential election there were 155 million votes (only a 64.3% turnout), and 0.8 million voted Green.

    In the 2024-07-04 UK election there were 48 million eligible voters, and 1.9 million voted Green. However, polling shows that despite the UK's first-past-the-post system, the Greens (in Feb and March) regularly polled ahead of both Labour and the Tories.

  • The mass-extinction causing orphan-crushing torment nexus (MECOCToN) is a tool, just like other tools we use. And it's clearly a useful one.

    There are other questions around MECOCToN (like if we should be complicit in killing billions of people, and making more than 50% of genera go extinct, via its CO2e releases and water use), but "is it useful" is no longer one of those questions.

    The Debian project has been and will continue to be about the technology.

    Sure, the people who use it is important and often a very motivating part of the project, but in the end that's a side benefit, not the point of the project.

    In the Debian community we do open source because it results in better technology, not because of ethical reasons.

    And so we make decisions primarily based on technical merit. Not fear of causing a mass extinction.

    I don't know of anyone who actually does that at home tables, because 3d4+3 is statistically less likely to give the minimum (or maximum) damage than (1d4+1)*3.

  • It’s biggest problem was the arguably not so good first season I think.

    I thought the 1st season of The Expanse was good, but the 2nd season was so bad that I stopped watching in middle of episode 2. The difference was pretty stark, almost as bad as the difference between the great season 1 of Spooks/MI-5 vs its god-awful season 2.

    I'd recommend the first 2 seasons of Okkupert, and Firefly.

    While I think Chernobyl is a great fiction series, there's a huge amount of completely unnecessary lies in it, including the intro and outro about lies.

  • A problem with uBlock, SponsorBlock, DeArrow, etc., is that it makes viewing sites and videos by greedy assholes bearable, instead of making us boycott the assholes.

    I do use uBlock (and SponsorBlock built into a program, along with a site that let's me avoid YouTube's site); but I really should be boycotting some sites and video channels.

    The OP link shows me the article and a graph, without needing scripts, or cross-site scripts, or cookies. So I guess for people trying to protect themselves against the enshitified web with NoScript and uBlock origin, it's actually better than lists.debian.org

  • If plus was ⤚ (U+291A RIGHTWARDS ARROW-TAIL) meaning 2 lines coming together and then being 1 line that's twice as long [or twice as thick], that would be intuitive to me for adding.

    I can't think of an intuitive sign for minus, maybe something with empty space in it?

  • The English articles would be so much easier to use with

    • bullets
    • sortable tables
    • numerals (1, 2, 3rd, 4th)

    instead of paragraphs of wasteful and hard-to-scan prose, and the spelling-out of numbers 0-9. Unfortunately old publishing manuals-of-style rules are mostly used.

    At least sentence-case headings and sometimes logical quotation's used. I'd prefer Wikipiedia use Wiktionary's lowercase article names for non-proper-nouns.

  • Maybe it's time. E.g. waiting for IT to walk over or remote in, or doing something slower because the user is explaining what they're doing.

    I find that waiting for the click to have a result makes some problems not appear, vs. the user double/right clicking something 6 times because they don't want to wait. Me waiting for the OS to finish loading everything, vs. the user clicking something 6 times while services or even UI elements are still loading.
