  • I think it would actually be kind of cool for somebody to add a counter to the corner of the screen that shows a best guess estimate of how many loops it’s been.

  • Aside from one or two movies like Tropic Thunder, I feel like Tom Cruise is largely the same way. His movies have largely become a playground for him to fill his Adrenalin lust with crazier and crazier stunts.

  • I wonder if this is just a necessary legal/regulatory step in order for them to start running Virtual Power Plants in the UK. There was a recent article stating that they recently ran a successful test of a 100,000 node VPP in California. Up until now I’ve only heard of them being 1000-2000 nodes, so that test is a massive improvement.

  • Pensions were fine back when the vast majority of people worked for the same employer for their entire career. But the number of people who do that these days has dropped significantly. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics the average person today changes jobs 12 times during their career. So unless the federal government wants to take over managing pensions then we need something like 401k retirement plans that can follow an employee from one employer to the next.

  • No, but it’s far easier to explain how to configure your home network such that 182.168.1.* is for your regular devices like laptops, etc. and 192.168.2.* is for your IoT devices. Then block all access from 192.168.2.* to the internet so your IoT devices can’t “phone home”, can’t auto-update without your knowledge, can’t end up as part of a botnet, etc.

  • I met a lawyer working in Boston & living in the burbs a number of years ago. When Covid hit he worked from home for over a year. His job was one that could easily be remote, but like so many others, his boss eventually wanted him back in the office. His boss did admit that continuing to work remotely would have been an option if he lived further away.

    He & his girlfriend moved to Vermont, and he still has that job.

  • Back in the 90’s and 2000’s my commute ranged between 30-60 minutes by car one way to a combination of 15 minutes driving and 30-45 minutes on a subway.

    Since shortly before the pandemic my commute has been up a flight of stairs to our guest bedroom that’s now my office.

    I’m never going back.
