  • That's from their website, but it sounds like a bad AI slop answer. I guess they're trying to lean into the b2b more since that's where the money is.

    Better answer, historically:

TrueNAS is a Network-Attached-Storage focused OS which originally was based around FreeBSD and ZFS but now comes in Linux editions (known as TrueNAS 'core' and 'scale' respectively). It's less-often in "turnkey appliances" (e.g. the qnap's of the world) and more often used by people upcycling their old PCs into a NAS / server

  • TrueNAS; friend, buddy, pal,... Come on.

My NAS and phone are my only devices not running NixOS. You're a glorified dashboard. Don't tempt me.

  • Amazing how they try to deify this fucking idiot

  • Found the guy who uses bool for gender options

  • There are many powerful interests that want this for a variety of reasons, none of them good. When progress began being made, they all independently see it as building momentum so they try to capitalize on the opportunity. That's why there was a little noise at first, and now they're all suddenly crawling out of the woodwork. I'm sure there's some explicit coordination too, where favors are being exchanged and leverage is being used, since they identified that a rising tide raises all ships, and so the interests will cooperate and make deals as any wins serve them all and contribute the historic momentum.

They want to force this shit through quickly, and give the impression that it's inevitable and well-justified to quell public opposition and awareness.

People feel helpless against it, and there's little oppositional organizing. For being so loud of a move, it's remarkably quiet... Not sure if that's just media and narrative control, or if the world is so fucked that it can't get much traction on the public consciousness right now.

  • That would be great. I'll believe it when I see it.

I seriously doubt the authors intend you to uninstall your keyboard every time you need to write a work email; it's to stop you from profiting off of their work, just as you can't remove their branding and funding links when you re-distribute.

I have CC BY-NC images as my desktop wallpaper on my work laptop... Now if my work was selling the laptop then it could become a problem, especially if the pretty art was part of the value proposition. While it merely existing might be a gray area under some hyper-pedantic interpretation, it's functionally irrelevant in the real world until there's money involved and the licensor can show damages.

(Psst I also changed some behaviour in my GPL editor for personal use once without sharing my changes and also I also used that version a few times while writing proprietary commercial code... Pls don't tell Stallman)

  • That's not how that works...

It just means you can't modify it and make a profit from selling it or monetizing your modifications.

(... Or try to sell it without modification, for that matter)

Uses their own license which forbids commercial use but the source is available and you're free to modify and distribute it so...

Not proper FOSS and doesn't meet the OSI definitions but colloquially speaking it looks pretty open to me.

  • I tried to buy digital copies of an album the other day and couldn't because it was only on streaming services and DRM'd to all shit, so I just pirated it instead.

Ended up with some high quality flac too...

  • Grifter's gotta grift. But it's a good windsock for gauging where the popular winds are blowing. Dems are in the best position to capitalize on the shift, but I'm sure they'll find new and innovative strategies to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again, since they're owned by capital.

  • Trump ally Andrew Tate was even more blunt, writing, “NOBODY WANTS THIS WAR, ” before adding, “War transfers wealth from the working class to the banking class. So does fraud and inflation. The working class man simply cant catch a break and is endlessly wrecked. This is The Matrix - extraction from the populace to feed a machine minded host. Heartless.”
