Just your typical internet guy with questionable humor

  • Fun fact: you can easily make shortcuts for sites on linux and windows' home desktop, which will open the default browser at the page. You cannot create a URL shortcut in the home screen of fucking android unless you're using fucking chrome. Hell, depending on the browser, you can't even fucking save the html for offline reading. I doubt iphones are any better

  • TLDR - bloomberg is finally starting to get a bit suspicious about the AI bubble

Forgash: OpenAI has a $300 billion deal with Oracle to compute on Oracle's cloud network space. Nvidia and Core Weave, another cloud provider, also has a relationship. Nvidia bought $6.3 billion of cloud services from CoreWeave. OpenAI also has a deal with CoreWeave to pay as much as $22.4 billion for that compute space as well. OpenAI and AMD had the deal, that happened on Monday, obviously. Holder: AI companies say these kinds of large, reciprocal, and sometimes overlapping deals are what’s needed to meet growing demand for their tech. But as more and more money gets invested in the space these unorthodox business arrangements are also raising flags for industry analysts who are starting to wonder: Is the trillion-dollar AI market being propped up… by the industry itself?

Forgash: OpenAI does have high revenue, but it also burns cash. It's not a profitable company at this point in time. That is one of the key concerns of this circular financing leading to an AI bubble because companies are just putting so much money into not just OpenAI, but the other companies that OpenAI surrounds itself with and it's just kind of propping up the entire AI sector. (...) And so the concern is that all this money is going in, but none of it will ever come back out because there will never be a profit.

  • Actually getting annoyed by ads to the point I do what I can to block them. I work with IT and yet a good number of my coworkers don't use any adblock at fucking all

  • Counterpoint: previous technologies also enabled people to do what wasn't possible before. Photography allowed for perfect captures of a place and time. Electronic music can create sounds that no physical instrument can. So far, AI hasn't made anything "impossible" possible, it only makes what a skilled artist or writer could make but super fast.

  • Setting up an ai to draw the kind of stuff you want is not the same skill as typing in what you want, the former is more akin to setting up a coding environment

  • You could spin up a wiki and use the Discussion tab for that. Not ideal, but shouldn't be too hard to set up on fandom.wiki, for instance - should be simple to block edits by non-registered users. YouNeedAWiki or Miraheze should also work

  • "Could hit 329bn queries a day by 2030" - my guess is it probably won't, because the bubble will burst before it and most AI companies will crash hard
