  • I know what you did that summer.

  • You don't like stopping at a motel with COLOR TV?

  • People have assumptions of what correct communication should be, and it generally has a minimum page length instead of minimum content amount.

The worst cases I've seen is when they're trying to convince someone of something verbally, they get the agreement very quickly, but get stuck in convince mode rather than moving on since it shouldn't be that easy.

  • You should bring the dolls to the hotel! Nothing bad could ever happen if you did that.

  • If you can prove it with a proponderence of existence in a court of civil law, sure.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Would you stay at a hotel advertised as "not haunted"?

  • In regards to making friends, this is probably one of the easiest places to make them. It doesn't mean you'll be friends with everyone, but it means you'll have a lot more opportunities. Say yes and be open to be experiences.

Also, a big shift for college from high school is that more of the responsibility to stay motivated and on top of things falls onto you directly. That includes getting up and going to class and doing the work when you're going through a depressive episode. You're going to need to have a way to push through when you're otherwise not up to it.

Also, college isn't just about learning. It is about experiencing new things and taking leadership. Don't forget to do that as well.

  • And this is consistent with how Bernie has voted over the years. If his vote doesn't matter on a bill that will move things towards his goals but not enough, he votes no. However, if his vote is needed, he'll vote yes because some progress is better than no progress.

And it is always amazing how people will claim to like Bernie but really don't like it when this is pointed out.

  • The bolts are self sealing, so they probably don't need a lot of tools.

  • It is only senior staff that we see do that. The Enterprise D is designed to act like a mobile logistics hub for deep space missions and it routinely has Federation staff coming on board and leaving based on the mission profile.

  • Which makes sense given that the Orville isn't supposed to be a tip of the spear ship. It is near the Cerritos in terms of its mission profile.

  • We kind of have a global legislature already. We would just need a global executive.

  • Practice explaining things to others.

Pause a lot during your explanation and, if you can, get them to parrot back what you're explaining so you can see how they are understanding it.

Ask them questions as you explain it.

Draw it out or use some kind of graphical way of showing what you're talking about.

Try to explain it in a way that accounts for their motivations.

  • There's two things I've found that happen if there is a loop in the conversation.

    1. They aren't getting the causal implications. At that point, it is important to stop and ask if there was anything said earlier in the conversation that was unclear where they are asking the same question again. It starts to put them on the spot because you're rejecting their question and forcing them to rearticulate their question. It isn't enough that you're saying something, but that they're listening.
    2. They don't like the argument but they don't have a good response to tell you so they're hoping to wear you down. At this point, there isn't anything you can do to convince them so it is more laying out the consequences, protecting yourself, and moving forward. Drop all pretense at convincing them. If the chain of command needs to get involved, get it involved.
  • Things in the past are destined to be. Funny how that doesn't work with the present.

  • Just make your inputs are right. Garbage in, garbage out.

  • I'm talking about kids texting each other.

  • You would need to make them dumber/more controlled. A dumb phone with unlimited texting is still going to be a distraction.

  • The problem is that the chances are significantly higher and they only go up with each round of incestuous offspring, which is very likely with royalty.

Also, having a certain genetic trait doesn't mean that the line is immune to other genetic disorders. There can even be a problem where the genetic mutation which causes a benefit can cause other traits which are neutral or negative.
