  • Im like half of this. I'll never compete with my father, though, lol. He just seems to know how to fix and do everything. The only thing I can do for him is computers, and I feel bad because it's nowhere near what he can do and has done for me. Like how im basically broke and in debt and needed a car bad since my last one was 18 years old and he didnt want to keep fixing it or want to fix it because something bad was probably gonna happen soon. So he loans me the money and we buy my cousins car they were going to trade in... within the first month, the entire engine is shot. Dealership wants 9k, so he's like, nah. Tow to his house, and he buys a new engine online for 3k and puts it in himself. Took him some time, but he just finished a few weeks ago and has been driving it for 500 miles to make sure it's OK. I'm about to get it back this weekend.

My entire basement flooded a month ago from leaky water heater and then find out after everything was demolished and removed that there were also 5 different leaks in water pipes as well. He just came by and replaced all the plumbing with new pipes while it was exposed in 1 day.

The list goes on, but you get the point. I seriously have no clue what I would do without him, and I know he is getting older now so its kind of scary to think about. I got about 1 more year of debt, and I should be ok after that, thankfully. I'll never forget everything he has done to help. It sucks that a lot of people never get to have something like that.

  • I have a terrible memory, but for the money you're giving, I would invest a decent amount of time into reciting this over and over for hours and make it into a game the best I can. Considering the potential of this making all my financial issues go away, it seems like a very easy solution.

  • I use navidrome for hosting my music but for your ask I was also thinking funkwhale is exactly the thing you were asking for.

  • I am pretty sure food apps care less where the location of your IP is. Like 95% sure.

  • Yeah, I know. All those ideas weren't new, but I was happy to see them. I use ++ all the time, but i also like notepad just for quick notes. It's fast and lightweight. Today, I was using ++ a lot actually to edit firewall configs and scripts. They both have their place for me, but I will definitely be forced to give it up the day I am greeted with a check out our AI when opening notepad.

  • I use both notepad and ++. I think it fits both worlds of code and text editor. When I am using it I am usually needing to to replace words and other tweaks that are really easy and flexible with ++.

  • I didn't try, but a lot of those simple old apps were able to just run without any dependencies, and you may be lucky to just be able to copy the .exe from an older system to the new one.

I actually have been enjoying the changes they did to it with new tabs and auto saving so you can reopen without losing anything. But wow, I never saw AI coming to this... I will need to find a way to prevent it from updating. Otherwise, I will also be going back.

  • Wait, they didn't already? I feel like a year ago, it magically went up to 1.25 everywhere by me, so I just assumed they actually raised it. Some good news is I have seen it in grocery stores on sale a lot for .66 a can which kind of works out to the same price as the jug so I will just get a bunch of cans instead.

  • I dont go into depth that much, but i do a lot of manual labor getting everything in place when I get new music. Maybe I never spent a good amount of time figuring it out, but preset id tags done automatically never worked out for me. I check them all and edit a few things on some, and then I run it through music Picard using someone's script to only update genre tags and give up to 5 per track. After that, I add them in. My biggest complaint about Spotify was that I didn't feel anything when it recommended me stuff, and it always felt off as to what I heard. Something about looking it up, finding what's new, and wanting to hear it is why I keep coming back. Spotify, I didn't learn anything about who came on unless I looked. Weirdly enough, I feel like I discovered way more myself than with the algorithm.

  • Yeah! I've been using it since the first month, and it has been released and has come a long way in only 2 years. Funny enough, I used to use his other app, Yatse, way back in like 2010 for a while, and I also have nothing but high praise for it as well. It was a remote control app for Kodi, and the things he added to it were impressive. Who knew you needed tons of features in a remote control app!

  • I love seeing this. As someone who has kept his own library of music since 2004 and went through the peak of local libraries to it almost being dead after like 2012, this is a day I never saw coming! When it started declining, home hosting solutions were already sparse, but then some more threw in the towel as well. Right now, I use Navidrome as my server and Symfonium for the app and has been an incredible 2 years using it. If people start coming back, I feel like it will only drive more creativity and new features as it will be worked on more than it is.

  • empornium FTW!

  • For the longest time I thought it said slut life. I laughed very hard when I found out the truth. I still call it that when I see one. And yeah, I hate them as well.

  • As someone who has a lot of anxiety over things not going so well in life recently, I can tell you I get up way earlier than I should be because my mind won't shut off. I then sit there trying to go back to sleep but can't. So that's one way!

  • Thankfully, we never lost data, but we have had the controller die a few times through the years on a few servers before. Thankfully we had great support and the part was same day delivered to us to replace and the 2nd time was a Dell server which we also get the part same day and a tech to come replace it for us.

We avoided buying servers with this going forward. At this point, we really only have VM's and only a handful of physical servers anymore, so it's not even a concern.

  • That's because you have foresight and experience in dating, so it makes sense to us not to want to ever be involved with how dating works these days. Someone who grew up only ever knowing today's methods of dating will not deter someone who is young and probably super horny from trying a ton of new experiences for themselves. It's all they got!

  • Then, once you do, it's back to the picture again.

  • It's not perfect, but it does play videos without ads, and that's really all that matters!

  • I just use a domain name through name cheap, which includes ddns. I cant think of anything else that I do at home that isn't taken care of locally.
