  • IP? Do you mean imaginary property? If so, I agree. I think that ideas and culture should be shared. I understand the stated goal (protect individual inventors from being exploited by huge corporations) but that's not how it's played out. It's used as a tool of control by powerful companies to stifle innovation. Ask any 3d printer hobbyist if they like stratysus. (I effing hate them) there should be some mechanism to protect inventors but this isn't it.

  • Books. Multiple.

The Practice Effect by David Brin. It's an isekai (it's not anime, but it's an isekai) where things get MORE useful when you use them, reversing entropy.

Sentenced to Prism. MC is sent on a mission to a world inhabited by silicate based life forms. Shenanigans ensue. Mildly autistic coded MC.

Resurrection Inc. The dead are resurrected as mindless zombie robots. Sometimes it goes wrong and the dead regain their memories. The MC does. Hijinks ensue.

    edit - more

Mistborn Chronicles - an orphan gets super powers in a very messed up world. A group recruits her for a heist.

  • Lemmy more. The default comment sorting means there's a chance that my comment will be at the top and therefore discussion can happen. On reddit, past a certain amount of comments, I don't bother. No one will see it.

  • I still remember when blizzard made guitar hero bard class. The community loved it and wanted it to be real.

  • Tell my grandfather to get his heart checked out. He died too young. I'd love to see just how much sense he'd beat into my father, who is a complete garbage can of a person.

  • The "work yourself to death" is a stupid boomer concept. It's a hugely negative aspect of traditional masculinity.

When people say weird stuff like this, I always question why. Why would you have a kid and then work so hard to be away from it? Why would you work for a company that will lay you off the moment it earns them a higher stock price to do so? (no modern company deserves your loyalty.) Why would you brag about suffering instead of relaxing?

I understand that we're all wired differently but those values literally don't make sense to me.

  • This is my life story. Every day, I understand more and get closer to "old man lives alone with his dog in the woods"

  • Oooh this may be it. I've been told before that I do this. (the first paragraph)

  • If Bob feels wronged somehow take him out for a drink or dinner or so

I don't think Bob is ever gonna return my calls, heh.

  • It does sound like maybe buying Bob a beer

lol, I don't think Bob is ever gonna talk to me again.

  • Was Bob upset because he didn’t know that was your intent

I don't think so. I'm pretty up front about my goals. I messaged Bob and said that I am looking for a job and I want to ask Alice questions. Literally. "Could you introduce me or send my contact info over? I'd like to get an inside perspective about the work environment and ask more about the job."

I then asked questions like "can you introduce me to the hiring manager or send my contact info their way? Additionally, what's the work culture like? Are bosses on your case all the time or are they asking how they can help? Do people like working there or does everyone complain? What's the work hours like?"

  • I would have probably thanked Bob and dropped him from the email before asking Alice questions.

I usually do this. I even said that directly. "I don't wanna clog up Bob's inbox, so can we talk directly?" Alice didn't accept direct communication, though, and replied via CC, so I went with it. Oh well.

  • Thanks, I'll try these.

  • ah, thanks

  • I never comment on posts >100 comments. They'll never get seen. Here? There's a good chance to reply.

  • That's because anti trans bigotry isn't tolerated. GTFO.

  • And circuit breakers or fuses. Stop storing fireworks in the control panels.

  • I really enjoy Making It and am a patreon subscriber. It's Jimmy Diresta, Bob "I Like to Make Stuff" Clagett, and David Picutto (FKA The Drunken Woodworker). They talk about being makers, being on youtube, being middle aged, etc. Ep 469 just came out, so it's got some staying power.

  • Depends on how you define family. Childhood family, going on 5 years and it's gonna be longer.
