  • If its a cheap crappy one, the compressor is on/off depending on temperature. Decent ones will have a VFD to manage the load of the compressor so it doesn't have to turn on/off all the time but just regulates the compressor load to match heating/cooling requirement. Both have their own controls, and you generally shouldn't mess with them.

    Seriously though, people who can do good R&D are not cheap (rightfully so IMO) and they often spend thousands of hours before anything they do can be monetised and start earning a company money. It's a big expense that a company need to be able to absorb for an unknown amount of time and without any guarantees that the current direction pans out into something profitable.

    Depending on the industry, regulatory requirements are also expensive to fulfill and another barrier to slow things down and increase the required man hours to reach a finished product.

  • Tesla owners are not notified as such when the recalls are fixed by SW updates, they just get an update pushed to the car and a request in the car that there is an update ready to install.

  • I just think it's useful to have different words for things that can be easily fixed without having to go get the car to a mechanic and having no immediate safety impact, and things that may require you to take the vehicle to a mechanic ASAP because there is immediate serious danger. They should not be in the same category, and people should be aware that they require different levels of attention and urgency. When it's all just referred to as a "recall", people will start to not take them seriously when they more often than not are minor things like this.

    I know it has to be called a recall, but they really should find another name for these things now that OTA SW updates for issues are a thing, not only for Tesla but also other manufacturers.

  • Sort of, but not quite...It's intentionally done in a way that in no way scales well and quickly becomes cost prohibitive for small players (not just individuals) to run a server because it requires an insane amount of data and bandwidth. So in practice you can only run a server if you're willing to throw a shitload of money after server capacity.

  • I don't like the closed nature of manufacturers like bambu, but damn the Prusa fanclup is sniffing some pretty strong copium these days. The core One is way overpriced for a medium-sized (bordering a bit small these days TBH) coreXY printer with nothing out of the ordinary with regards to capabilities.
