Old, cranky, & woke but needs a nap.

Words, not video. Links, not screenshots.

No DMs please, and no AI, no BS, no ads, no Substack, no justice, no peace.

Publishes itsdougholland.com and SeattleSoon.com.

  • It's not an argument, and not to be won.

  • Trump & the Republicans are currently more powerful than people carrying signs. Thus, it's pointless for people to protest. Is that your point?

  • Almost as credible as International Business Times.

  • The agitators, of course, are the face-wrapped and camouflage-clad Secret Police. Everyone else in Minneapolis lives there and belongs there.

And obviously, the purpose of this invasion has jack crap to do with immigration. The intent is to trigger a violent response, which will provide the basis for Trump & the Republicans to exponentially increase the violence and replace the America we've called home with abject fascism.

  • I'm not a Democrat at all, support gun rights, own two myself, and also support gun control. (:

  • They just categorically refuse to vote for Democrats because they have correctly deduced that Democrats want to take their gun rights away

Correctly? A few Dems mention "gun control" sometimes, mostly to appease anti-gun voters, but among elected Democratic office-holders there's zero call for taking away gun rights.

  • Ha — how did you get to know my family so well? I'm not interested in conversation with people who aren't interested in conversation, so I no longer engage — unless they say something stupid or fascist in my presence.

  • Some things are best discussed privately.

  • In a position commanding a wide public audience, Jonathan Rauch has spent years speaking against us and mocking us. Today, he's had an epiphany and figured out he's been well-paid to be wrong. That's cool. "Welcome to the fight. This time I know our side will win," and all that.

I'm not going to waste any effort kicking him today, but I'm also not shocked, not scolding anyone who doesn't welcome Jonathan Rauch with a bouquet of flowers and wet kisses. Anyway, in five days or five minutes he'll decide we're wrong again. Shrug.

  • My response is positive to all the first two ideas, but I've seen no need for NSFW voting.

Looks like stale communities are already closed and deleted, at least here on lemmy.world. Popped into a community I ran but set to "no new posts" a few years ago, and all the old posts are gone. Which is OK by me.

  • Cool stuff from the web & interesting conversations, no charge, and signing up is easier than you've been led to believe.

  • Certainly gets a rave review from me.

  • OMG, I was under a weapon of mass destruction during surgery a few weeks ago!

  • Resigning would be counterproductive, short-term and especially in the long-term, but I'd be delighted if one or two sane members of the SC went on strike, by ditching the legal lingo and issuing plain-English dissents.

  • ... since the birth of my second daughter.

As absolutely always, when you find a Republican office-holder with a smidgen of empathy, it's because the outrage in question affects them personally. If it's not about them or their family, the cruelty is fine, even enjoyable.

  • I've avoided Facebook for so long, the idea that it's required as part of an 'education system' bewilders me. Wow.

  • All I know about Cracker Barrel is the company's history of racism, like this from 2004:

More than 40 plaintiffs in 16 states alleged black people were denied service, assigned to segregated seating, subjected to racial slurs and served food taken from the trash. Also, about a dozen employees complained that blacks were segregated from white workers and generally received “back of the house” assignments such as cook and dishwasher.

If I'd given it any thought, I might have assumed the company's shittiness was in the past, but this right-wing uproar over re-designed branding, with the frickin' President of the United States demanding they switch back to the old logo, and the company's quick acquiescence, convinces me Cracker Barrel is a restaurant for fascists.

  • This article has been written so many times, by so many conservatives. They're always enthusiastic about fucking everyone over, until it's themselves or their family.

Someone should make a website, with all these hundreds of articles collected in one place. Maybe someone has?

  • I'd like the ability to block users when I stumble over an imbecile while browsing, but I still need to see the blocked user's comments in groups that I moderate.

At present, user blocks are absolute, and don't take moderation into consideration. This means, since I moderate a group, I can't block users. If I do, and they later post to the group I moderate, I won't see their posts or comments.

    How do I un-ban someone?
