  • That's a dangerous line of reasoning. Depending on who you ask, people won't consider a lot of things "equal or better".

In no particulary order, a lot of people would not apply ethics to: Animals in general, pets, children, woman or all people of different ethnicitiy, religion or even political views.

I'd argue that ethics should be applied to all living things. Well, at least all things capable of suffering, but that keeps people arguing again - doctors even used to think that human babies aren't fully capable of that.

Regarding the original question: The simulation isn't alive. Stopping it won't 'kill' it, assuming it can be resumed. Deleting it, however, argubly is be unethical, yet it does not cause suffering at the very least.

  • Never had more than a sip and even that only in my mid twenties. The taste is vile to me and overpoweres absolutely anything, no matter what people tell me.

On top of that, I hate drunk people and not being fully in control of myself is something I'm deeply afraid of since I was little.

  • Instead of learning skills individually, learn them as you go! Just pick an engine - I'd recommend Godot - and get to work.

Here's a nice challange about building increasingly difficult games: The 20 games challange.

You start with Pong, which is super easy to get the hang of. You could even follow a tutorial for that one and then try to use less and less tutorials as you go down the list.

Just get going instead of watching endless how-to videos, which is an easy trap for beginners. Actually starting a project and finishing one are two of the most important skills. You'll quickly learn which parts come naturally to you and which ones you need to focus on.

As for creativity, once you're done with each game, try to think of a twist to spice it up and add it to the game. It can be a simple thing, like e.g. with Pong using multiple balls or maybe adding obstacles - just test what's fun and what's not!

  • Man in the first panel isn't funny and people call him out specifically. He should get better.

Woman in the second panel isn't funny and people call all woman unfunny. Woman shouldn't be comedians.

    It's about misogyny.

  • This may not necessarily apply to you, but those 30 minutes of walking would do wonders for the overall health of your average American.

  • Pretty much every country except for the USA seems to be a bull shit magic fantasy land. At least when living in any kind of larger city.

  • Reddit? The site with a search so bad, I had to use external search engines? Great idea.

Also, Reddit offers their own AI Q&A? The site that prominently poisend many Google AI summaries? What are they even smoking at this point?

  • I don't think it's even set in stone that we are expanding at all. There is another theory that the universe as we know it could be the inside of a black hole. In this scenario we could actually be shrinking instead - or rather being compressed, if that makes sense.

  • Programming @programming.dev

Which are your favorite podcasts about programming?

  • I could present him with multiple options at once, but since he only gets wet food, this would involve a lot of waste.

There's also the added problem of changing taste. Depending on my mood, I prefer different food on different days. Until proven otherwise, I just assume the same for him, which is why I would ideally have everything in stock and he could choose every day.

Maybe I should get more cats, give them multiple options and see who goes for what. Ideally, everything gets eaten and I learn more about their preferences.

  • Your mind will be blown once you learn about 'different flavours'. I wish I could ask my cat which he prefers.

  • Bold of you to assume I even use auto complete!

  • How did you support yourself after getting out?

  • Do you know why one would ever do that? 20(02/05)25 feels like the "Don't Dead Open Inside" of dates.

  • It's incredible how seemingly effortlessly Cranston pulls off Hal again. One friendly smile and the whole mental image I got from Breaking Bad is forgotten.

  • Iirc, we had sex ed in 3rd or 4th grade at age 10 or 11. Maybe younger, depending on the age you entered 1st grade.

It was repeated at grade 5, I think.

I don't remember ever asking my parents anything and they never sat me down. I don't think anyone ever seriously told me any fairy tales or misinformation.

  • You needn't look further than 'Conservative Environmentalist'. Obviously, he has no clue what his party actually does.

  • About 3 days. I do it every now and then since it does help relief a medical issue.

Interestingly, I don't get hungry and don't feel much difference overall. I could go much longer, but I don't want to worry about refeeding syndrome.

  • Pretty much everything? I have very specific likes and pretty much stopped consuming things outside of those, since I can't even fit all the stuff I'm guaranteed to like.

I guess among like-minded people, Final Fantasy 7 is the most glaring omission.

For lemmy, it's probably anything Star Wars or Star Trek.

  • Given an unlimited amount of tries, I can win any major lottery 10 times in a row.

Given an unlimited amount of tries, I still cannot go super saiyan. Believe me, I'm close to that amount of tries!
