Fediverse is worse than Reddit. Mod abuse, admin abuse, disinformation, and people simping for literal terrorists.

  • Duh..? lol Is your reading comprehension broken or something? I even gave you a freaking range of scenarios. I'm literally using mbin for various parts of the Fediverse, including Lemmy and Mastodon. I think I have a pretty good grasp of it.

  • I had a look at it a while ago and almost everything I searched for was in Portuguese. Not a big issue for me since I don't really understand and consequently not use those type of platforms anyway but I kinda felt that would probably stop a wide adaptation with English speaking people.

  • Moderation that happens on the Fediverse..? I'm not sure where you're struggling to understand the combination of those words.

  • Even if, they don't really speak English, let alone German. You can see it on Bluesky that the majority of posts are in Portuguese.

  • If you speak Portuguese maybe.

  • The fediverse moderation is either nonexistent, having disinformation, Tankies and terrorist simps flourish, or being mod abusive like on Reddit where mods react selectively and based on their mood.

  • I wasn't talking about something like an AI in Pong. But if your definition of "AI" is conditionals such as if statements, then absolutely everything is an AI, which honestly just further muddles the meaning of that term.

  • Yeah but you think a lot of weird things, so that does not surprise me in the slightest.

  • I'm thinking of something that actually processes some form of "thought", in the abstract sense. Even video game AI does that to an extend (granted, there's various techniques depending on the game type), so the term here is actually somewhat appropriate. LLMs don't do that at all though, they're just word guessing based on the texts they were trained upon (while we stick with text gen here at least) and that just so happens to sound like somewhat coherent sentences that can fool someone into thinking that their computer actually talked to them. There never was any sort of thought behind that though. It functions closer to how your mobile keyboard predicts the next word you want to use in its suggestions at the top. It just tries to complete the text it was already presented with. A lot of the illusion here comes actually from the tools used to display this information in a chat like manner, but that's just frontend foolery for the user.

  • Because I don't have the time nor interest for those constant bad faith arguments on this fucking platform. You questioning my opinion that this is an issue that we need to overcome means that you feel the Fediverse should stay small. I've heard this argument way too often already and it is nothing but a stupid circlejerk from people who pat themselves on the back for feeling superior over their choice to quit Reddit and to be "different".

  • And now you're gaslighting me. What a great human being to talk to.

  • In before is not just skips important details in its summarization, but also hallucinates its own interpretation of things into it.

Generally, don't call it "AI", don't overhype it, don't use it where it is bad in its function (like telling you "facts"), don't shove it into everything. I bet 80+ percent of all "AI" energy consumption is wasted on completely useless and moronic tasks that have 0 value even on a personal level.

  • I'm not even going to entertain this moronic point you're trying to make. If you want to stay in some sort of tiny social media bubble I'd simply suggest you host your own instance and just defederate from everyone and everything. Then you have all your small scale communications with yourself for yourself.

  • I swear I've read this exact headline a year or so ago already.

  • TIL Wordpress is using ActivityPub. I think one issue we have is how hard it is to find instances, communities, or even other media like this, since they won't even show up in your search if they're not already federated with your instance. And since many servers block crawlers, it is hard to index them externally too. I think that really limits the reach and the perceived size of the Fediverse.

  • Oh damn. That flew right over my head as a kid since I didn't know about presidential terms & term limits in the US.

  • Some cats are super needy though, wanting to use you as furniture 24/7.

    • Anything from EA.
    • Anything from Ubisoft
    • Anything Epic exclusive.
    • Anything with Denuvo (or whatever is the next intrusive DRM).
    • Anything competitive PvP multiplayer.
    • Anything "free" to play.
    • Probably almost all general multipler & live service by now - or otherwise full of dark patterns to keep me "engaged".
