I get that perspective. However, it is important to know that the department of defense from 2 years ago is not the same as the the department of war today. It has been systematically changed to give the regime more power. It has made defense industries war industries. And it is ready to be deployed against US citizens.

I'd much rather pay for a service that doesn't log or share my data with advertisers than use a free service which treats me as a product to sell to advertisers. Sometimes that means self hosting and sometimes self hosting is cheaper or easier to scale or do offsite, even if simply collocating.

Is it making any audible sounds while running?
I haven't read the smart data for Seagate in a while but the errors numbers look off and would like to see more details. Haveing errors in itself doesn't mean much. Normally I look for Reallocated Sector Count, Seek Error Rate, and Uncorrectable Sector Count. But here it's not telling the details like the types of errors.
Maybe try sudo smartctl -all /dev/sdd not sure if the -a you used is being interpreteded correctly?
I've not used bazzite before. But I was just thinking you might be having weird issues if steam is installed as a flatpak or some other sandboxed environment.
Here's what I'd try (in order of ease to try):
switch from Wayland to x.
ensure steam is natively installed.
test the open drivers instead of the closed.
try a different distribution like endeavorOS which is great for gaming.
Test in-between each step and switch back or tweak as desired. You really shouldn't have to spend more money for new hardware unless your GPU is faulty.
If you're having issues with the proprietary drivers, you should try the open drivers for nvidia. Depending on your distro and install, you might also be having problems because of using wayland instead of X.
You might also get better mileage out of a different distribution altogether as some are intended to be a better experience for gaming and will have some important things pre-installed. This all depends on your skill level and the amount of time/effort you have to dedicate ofcourse.
Look into Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) alternatives. You can just do an internet search for "____ foss alternative" and you should be able to something useable. You might have to learn different hotkeys or workflows but it's better than paying a creativity fee in my opinion. Note that the free in FOSS is for freedom, not $0.00. Some FOSS tools might cost money or might be financed by paid support.
All the posts I've ever made here have been created using FOSS.
Another thing is to prioritize things that you can run locally or self host. An offsite storage backup that you own won't be used to train a generative model, but the same can not definitely be said for onedrive or gcloud.
Your specific questions in this post can't really be answered however unless you state your medium. There is a big difference between feilds like photo editing, game development, and music creation.
