Actually, this town has more than enough room for the two of us

He/him or they/them, doesn't matter too much

Marxist-Leninist ☭

Interested in Marxism-Leninism, but don't know where to start? Check out my Marxist-Leninist study guides, both basic and advanced!

  • Lemmy is always going to lean more radical than other platforms. Not only is the lead dev a Communist, but to pick Lemmy over Reddit is an ideological choice to begin with. There is an ideological barrier to entry, and this won't change until Reddit goes under.

  • Again, depends on who is saying it. The sentiment behind hatred for the rich is what is expressed, though the methods differ between leftists, who seek revolutionary change, and disaffected liberals, who seek reforms.

  • "Eat the Rich" just means "rich bad, and make them accountable." Depending on who is saying it, it could mean anywhere from taxation to revolution. A good chunk of those saying it are revolutionary leftists, like Marxists and Anarchists.

  • I asked you clarification on an absurd claim, and you called me dumb and claimed I'm sealioning. Why make the claim in the first place?

  • So you just make.claims and can't justify or prove them? Strange.

  • It doesn't seem pretty clear at all, can you explain that?

  • What do you mean "half of Hexbear is spambot farms?"

  • What do you mean?

  • No problem!

  • Great! Parenti has such a witty way of writing, and does a fantastic job contextualizing and humanizing the people of the Global South and AES states. Glad to hear I've helped guide you towards his books!

Side note - I really like the mini-genre of Parenti Lofi, his speeches are great and his passion combined with more chill vibes is a good combo, like sweet and salty!

  • What do you mean "they think they are the true Lemmy users?" Most on Hexbear only browse the local feed. Secondly, which struggle session got rid of the "reasonable people?" Are you referring to the time they kicked out all of the transphobes, and now have one of the largest concentrations of trans individuals on Lemmy? Genuinely, what "reasonable" opinion has been discarded?

  • Lemmy.ml and Lemm.ee are both more broadly federated than Lemmy.world if you want to combat the US bias of .world.

  • The Political Compass doesn't actually mean anything, you cannot simplify political views to a grid, moreover nobody is "authoritarian," people have different views on centralization vs decentralization. For example, Marxists believe in a fully publicy owned, centrally planned economy, whereas Anarchists believe in full horizontalism. I would describe the Marxist system as having more potential for democracy, as you have a unified system and thus your votes and voice covers a broader area, whereas an Anarchist would disagree, most likely.

  • In your instance' case, db0 has said IIRC that the Anarchists on Hexbear, while not aligning 100% with them, are generally good and worth being federated with.

  • Marxist-Leninists side with the marginalized communities in society because

    1. It's the correct thing to do, morally, and
    2. The only way to gain real progress is to unify marginalized groups, rather than have individual groups fight separately.

I include works that go over these topics in my introductory Marxist-Leninist reading list. Marx and Lenin didn't really write on transgender struggles, but provided a logical framework of analysis and toolset that logically leads to support for the trans community along with other marginalized groups.

  • Hexbear isn't being paid for anything, they are largely made up of Anarchists and Marxist-Leninists. Hexbear has been unafilliated with Lemmy for years before integrating with Lemmy a year ago.

You might be seeing their zero tolerance policy for liberalism in action, but if you genuinely want to know what their users are about, just visit it. Just hop on over to Hexbear.net and scroll the news megathread and whatnot, try to understand what's going on.

Finally, I want to question why you believe anyone would be paid to mess with Lemmy, moreover when the lead developers are aligned fairly closely on ideological lines. If they were here to "cause chaos," why would the devs support them ideologically? To ruin their own network? That narrative is just a wild hypothesis.

  • Thanks for the kind words! I do throw it around a lot, haha. If people actually read what I link, that's a massive victory! Feel free to ask any questions you may have about it. I also think following Blackshirts up with the famous Yellow Parenti Speech is a great way to close out that section.

  • Yep, exactly why I put it there! In the eyes of many non-Marxists, the USSR was an irredeemable monster of a country. This leads to conflicts with the general rising opinion of Marx among liberals as well, that must mean either the USSR wasn't Marxist, or that Marx himself is outdated. On the contrary, more mundane yet heroic than all, the USSR was real, not a paradise and not a hellscape. Marxism in the heads of dreamers is always going to veer towards impossibility and be pure and free of struggle, when history tells us otherwise. In fact, such an attitude is anti-Marxist.

The reason I put it there is because Parenti has done what I believe to be the best job contextualizing and myth dispelling surrounding AES. Most people seem to think mere awareness that the Red Scare existed means that that was something from the past, and not still ongoing. They believe simple awareness allows them to see through it all, without actually digging into it.

There are a great many reasons to remain a Marxist and to continue believing in Public Ownership and Central Planning, but without learning what did and did not work we will repeat their mistakes. Thanks for sharing!

  • It was anti-Harris, anti-Biden, and anti-Trump, as Communists and Anarchists are.
