I want to do that with my uncle, I got him into self-hosting but I just need to save up so money so I can give him either a nas or a small server. It's always the drives that skyrocket the price.
Heyyy,
I started because I wanted save money and move away from Google to hosting mini cloud for my whole family that we rely on.
I have TrueNAS Server with i5-8400, 32GB of RAM, 256gb nvme for OS, 512gb SSD for appdata dataset, 8tbx2 and 4tbx2 mirrored totaling 12TB of usable space with 512gb SSD for cache for main storage dataset.
TrueNAS hosts these containers:

I also have AI Server with i5-9400, 40gb of RAM, 128gb nvme for OS, GTX 1070 8GB for local Qwen3.5 9b model and openrouter API for deepseek model.
Containers that it runs are:

Then I have a VPS for proxy, crowdsec, fail2ban to expose my services.
And also I pay for iDrive e2 bucket to backup everything.
Well this my small production server infrastructure that i am very proud of.
And I'm so glad I have UPS for both of the server.
Thank you)))
