  • The headline suggests it’s a problem that the USA is working on. Evidence suggests that in fact the approach being taken is to imitate an ostrich, and bury the collective head in oil and gas money.

  • Some people I know have remained friendly with some conspiracy theorists since Covid (I just stopped interacting when they told me I’d be dead by 2022 because I received the vaccine) and I’ve heard that one of the current theories is that the government is starting the wildfires for some reason.

  • Heh, I was thinking of that in the context of age verification. “But the children” overrides the terminal fear of Antichrist?

  • I hate to say it but he “fixed” the deficit by deferring pension funding obligations for a few years. It’s kinda like paying the electrical bill with your 401k contribution and saying you’re ahead. I hope they figure out the funding in the interim or it will reflect poorly on leftist policies.

  • Wow those narrowboats must make nuclear subs look roomy. I always assumed there was a good depth to them.

  • Yeah, I’m watching some earlier episodes and that is part of my current outlook.

  • 1Password took investor funding, moved to subscription and focusing on corporate.

Bitwarden heading the same way. Great…

  • I was in the trek camp when I was younger. But from a story perspective i think the episodic TV has aged poorly and the movies are just double episodes of TV. (This applies to Stargate too, for me.)

Theres something to be said about the social commentary certainly but meh.

Star Wars remains awful but at least it has entertaining aspects; it’s like the Marvel franchise now. Boom, explosion, wow. Though - Marvel has too much in the Team America Saves the World aspect (much like SG).

  • I work with Microsoft products. This checks out.

  • What about wget? Then next step is the application and I’m mostly out of ideas.

  • Pop into the console and try pinging or dig google/etc. Might just be something simple like lack of dns server.

  • I’m doing slaac and some reservations for devices that just randomly pop new MACs (vms or something, I don’t remember why.

I use aliases for my firewall rules. DNS I don’t really have working.

  • It’s incredible what lengths humans are going to in order to avoid dragging a fibre optic line into a remote area.

I think Starlink is fantastic (the engineering work not musk) and it’s a great thing for many remote applications, but they’re positioning it for use as backup internet in urban areas and primary internet for anyone outside of a dense urban area, which simply isn’t appropriate.

  • I had to get a NAS with moderate horsepower (a mobile i5 chipset). It’s not worth on power consumption or noise. Usually there’s not a lot you can do about noise. But free is free.

  • Covid spread easily; I don’t think hantavirus is as easy to spread. However, it’s much more deadly and can be dormant for 60 days, spreading itself.

    We’re pretty fucked.

  • There’s only one I’ve come across and it’s too expensive for my taste, but maybe one day. My back is healed so I don’t need it. Atlas Headrest
