In the fediverse since 2017. I mostly talk sports. If something on the internet doesn't spark joy, mute it.

Do not yell at me simply because I am in front of you and the people responsible for the problems are not. It is extremely unpleasant.

  • What’s your baseline? Where are you starting from?

  • Does anyone bridge their threadiverse account to bluesky? I can’t imagine how disorienting it would be for your average Bluesky user to randomly come across a reply to a post from a piefed thread, for instance.

  • I like the trickle better than a huge collection, so thanks for posting

  • And Seattle Storm legend, obvi:

Last Wednesday, the Connecticut legislature passed a bill stating that the UConn legend will now serve as a co-state bird every March, sharing the designation with the American robin

  • "An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience." -- Mitch Hedberg

In software, it's important to think about whether you should fail open or fail shut.

  • Personally, I prefer it when authors promote their own work -- it's nice to be able to ask questions about it directly.

  • I'm not gonna get into this one, but as a rule, if you're on one of the default instances for a given fediverse service, such as mastodon.social, you should be using it to actively shop for a smaller instance more closely aligned with your interests.

  • Cops are always whining about how dangerous their jobs are and how they need hazard pay because criminals are targeting them, and then bring location-emitting devices to their personal homes so that the "criminals" know exactly where to find them and their families. Makes me think maybe they aren't really "afraid for their lives" like they say literally constantly.

  • I find the rest of the fediverse considerably kinder on average than the threadiverse.

  • Piefed supremacy

  • Those ice hockey girlies in the pwhl be kissing on each other and getting married there's no way you can convince me it isn't homoerotic.

  • I think that's one of my favorite aspects. As I've gotten older, it's hard to find low-stakes social encounters to hang out with my friends. The local women's soccer team is doing well in the champions league is a good excuse to head out to sit in the summer sun on a wednesday night by the sound.

  • I really enjoy watching men’s sports with straight men for exactly this reason. We’ll sit around and they’ll talk about how such and such a man spent so much time in the weight room, and he’s been putting on muscle, and he’s low to the ground and explosive, and it’s like, dude you are clearly talking about how bro is caked up from doing squats all offseason, how do you not realize how extremely homoerotic this whole discussion is? I find it cute how flummoxed they get about it when you say something about how the player’s looking cute in those shorts or whatever, but it’s also fun to head down to the women’s sports bars and see the lesbians get all flustered about the women’s sports teams. It’s very different because the women’s sports fans are generally much more willing to be open and honest about how such and such player is so cute or hot or however, and it’s less… lecherous? objectifying? than the men’s fans. It’s a pretty stark cultural difference that enjoy seeing in different fandoms.

  • I suspect what you're finding is that the kind of men who make amorous advances aren't the kind of men you're interested in, and the kind of men you're interested in don't make amorous advances. Have you tried amorously approaching a man who you're interested in?

  • I definitely think your own instance is the right move here, and you can post whatever you want to your own instance. I don't want you to hear me saying "you shouldn't do this," but instead hear me saying "please don't be offended when you find your efforts are not well received."
