  • So far ahead in what way? We're talking about powering electric motors not building pico-scale computer processors. The difficult advancements in EVs is with the battery technology and battery technology is not specific to EVs themselves. We've been building cars for over a hundred years at this point so the rest of the car building process is already well established here.

  • Thats because people only vote for one of two parties therefore neither party needs to do anything to secure their votes. All they have to do is convince you that the other party is/would be worse rather than actually doing things that benefit people or have a real impact.

  • Ford stopped selling sedans because they couldn't build good ones to outcompete the Japanese and SK brands economy wise or German/Japanese luxury and performance wise. It isnt because people want worse gas mileage.

  • I'm currently vacationing in Tokyo and saw a protest (about not tolerating racism) with like 15 people today surrounded by at least 50 Japanese police with 5 cargo vans who setup and took down a whole block worth of metal barriers to keep either the protesters safe or keep the public 'safe' from the protesters.

    I think emergency workers take everything very seriously here including the no shoes policy.

  • I've been here about 3 years in total and think that things seem to be getting stale lately. All the top discussions are about US politics and often my "front page" is showing posts that are days old.

    Previously it only used to be like that on the weekends, but it could be a summertime thing with people spending less time behind a screen. I know reddit used to have "summer reddit" where the place got flooded with kids each June-September. This place doesn't have the draw for kids, which is fine with me, but I do wish the discussions were more varied.

  • The clue is the last line of their comment where they say they have a competitor offering 10Gbps which is why Comcast removed the data cap in their area. AFAIK it's still in place where I'm at because the only other option is CenturyLink 100mbps DSL.

  • They've changed it since covid so now if you use their modem/router combo, you get unlimited data for free. If you don't use their modem and router, you have to pay $30/mo to remove the data caps or keep yourself under 1.2TB for the month.
