    It's a light-up LED calendar using an esp32 driving 8 max7219 chips to show the current date as well as some animations and a clock when you push a button (Somewhat inspired by Simone Giertz's one of course)

    I'm a woodworker more than an electronics guy so I'm much more pleased with the case than the insides, though it did mean I designed my first PCB. SD card at the top stores some WiFi and time zone config data as well as the animations, esp uses an NTP library to get the current date & time and write it out to the display.

    My workshop is in a (former) bedroom in a smallish UK terrace house and it's so hard to keep the dust contained, and impossible to work with full sheet materials

  • British and living in the UK - my experience is quite the opposite actually, never read HG Wells but have read 20,000 Leagues, Around the World, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth multiple times, though I come from quite a francophone family so that might have had an influence.

    Obviously I'm aware of Wells and his works, but I'd say Verne is just as culturally familiar here as Wells is

    No matter how good the output, it's still using tons of power and water, it's still taking work away from real artists, it's still stealing copyrighted content from real artists, LLMs and image convoluters can and never will be creative, just distilled and derivative of everything they've been fed in training
