  • is ghost cat ghost because of eating chocolate, or just taking advantage of the fact it ran out of lives?

  • Poor thing is in restraints too. I don’t mind leaving them out if they can access decent shelter from the weather, but this is just cruel.

  • I have a fan back chair very similar to hers. It was my mom’s. She always referred to it as the morticia chair. She was big on Halloween and Adam’s family and stuff (married my dad on Halloween dressed as Frankenstein and the bride of Frankenstein)

  • I used to do it for SETI@home (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) and a few other projects. Haven’t in a while now but maybe I will again since my server pc never shuts off anyway.

Back in the day I used boinc or some such to interface, it sort of looked like a torrent page, with progress bars on the tasks and stuff. It was kinda neat having an impact.

  • I genuinely don’t like being around kids or teens, they make me uncomfortable, so I wouldn’t like my younger self. Also I was a horrible child, according to my mother throughout my childhood, so.. yeah.

I’d help my 10yo self, but I wouldn’t take myself in and raise her or whatever; I’m far too negligent for that (why I’m sterile), and having had a negligent single parent myself, I have no interest in passing that experience down. Alternate me deserves better than I could provide. It would be a more frustrating version of my own shitty childhood if I did it - at least my own mother wasn’t physically disabled. And she only had the ‘tism (undiagnosed but almost certainly where I got it), where I have adhd and the ‘tism, as well as a slew of physical issues (headaches, back pain, digestive issues, bad joints, etc.) that would mean I can’t be fully present for a kid, even myself.

But I could probably mentor myself; I know where we fuck up and why, and if I could prevent that suffering (not necessarily change the way our life shakes out, but take away the negative feelings about it that took me decades to work through and are still a problem sometimes), I would like to. I think if I’d had some sort of supportive role model who wasn’t arms-length (seriously I have no memories of being hugged as a child, but lots and lots of being punished..), I’d probably have turned out way less of a disaster.

  • It is, there used to be a place around me that catered to adults for bouncy inflatable things.

$10 and some mushrooms and it was an amazing time.

  • Oh man hearing that I’m super glad I got the hell out of the SaaS support job I had.

It was for a business-end tax filing company. I bet they are deep in the shit this year.

  • Rice and vermicelli is rice and pasta, and it’s wildly common, especially the cheap bagged side dish stuff.

    So I guess I do.

  • I wanted to listen to it, so I went looking.

And I am wildly disappointed that the only human-read video I could find is a freakin’ ASMR video. I can’t watch that shit.

The computer-read versions make it sound like it would make a great tongue twister memory sort of thing. I’m honestly a tiny bit surprised it hasn’t been done.

  • They probably have.

But if you came across a random bug, especially a big one like that, wouldn’t you assume other people already knew about it? I would.

I mean sure you might take a pic and send it to a few people, but they would probably also assume it’s known.

  • They also wouldn’t have a “good” excuse to drink and would need to own the fact they have a problem, and we can’t have that.

  • Thanks but no, really, I won’t remember to take them out if they are comfortable. And I hear that’s pretty bad for you.

Even when they weren’t that comfortable I couldn’t remember to take them out.

And I cry plenty thanks! I have a whole movie playlist for days I feel like catharsis. It’s mostly Disney and Pixar because the people working there now grew up with the traumas I did. Woof do they know how to hit the heartstrings. #Healthy or something

Just not in the ways my eyes apparently want.. so like gushing intermittently and dry the rest of the time. Stoicism is hard man and we all have breaks don’t judge me. ;)

  • Or a horse that likes you. Mine used to bite my butt if I let him get his head over my shoulder. That’s shit hurts and he fucking knew it and thought it was funny.

He also knew I brought him watermelon and let him run full speed wherever he wanted to go (I was 12, what else did I have to do? My parents made terrible financial decisions that fucked me as an adult, but I had an interesting childhood!)

  • That’s a dramatic overreaction to what I said. They haven’t dismissed anything, because I got these glasses today. They said I could expect it. Weeks ago during the appointment.

  • Ah, no, I never wore them because I “didn’t need them” and it was inconvenient. I’m very bad with forming new routines to do things I should do, and keeping routines that exist, so if I don’t need them, I won’t use them.

Now I’m realizing I need them and probably have for a while, but the light prescriptions I had in the past were to see if eye issues were contributing to my headaches.

They don’t cause them. That’s a whole other issue that’s being handled as best it can be. My prescription was always really mild. Still is, but it’s enough that I feel a need for it in daily life. Because I wanna play video games without eye strain.

My eye doc is through the VA and I’ve seen many over the years, and they have all said the same thing; you don’t really need them yet but we’ll give you a pair to try to see if it helps. They have checked for all the things because I see halos and stuff. But apparently nothing significant. Dry eye can apparently cause similar stuff and I’ve got some really unpleasant gel drops for that now :)

  • Yeah this is basically what my optometrist said, that I can expect some adjustment.. but doctors always downplay stuff and like.. I’d like to get a better idea :)

I took my glasses off earlier and just looked at them at a distance and I think only one of them has a substantial prescription, which miiiight explain why I feel ill..

  • Ah, I tried contacts back in the day. My eyes are too dry for them. I got new gel eye drops prescribed when I went (it’s the VA, I have to accept treatment I would rather avoid to get treatment I want ;) I wanted eye drops that help and got glasses too! At least they are kinda cute. The lady (who also had plastic frames) said I looked like a diva. She was lying to make me feel good about my choice because she could tell I wanted someone to push me away from the black wire frames I’ve always gone with. But I like them :) they fit better than the ones with the weird nose bridge thing so I’m more likely to stick with them. And the pink of the frame goes well with the pink tint of the lense.

I enjoyed dealing with the discomfort for the backlight contacts for my starfire costume in my early 20s, but that lasted a whole like 2 hrs before I had to remove them. I can’t handle it. They hurt. I can’t deal with being uncomfortable. (I did also try regular contacts for a while but same thing plus I’m not responsible enough to remove them ever)

I appreciate the advice tho! Thanks for the reply!

  • I’m super into that too :)

  • I mean if we met them as a species on another planet and they had a million years more than we did to develop (relatively speaking), without the inherent space travel question, and maybe with less inherent ability to fuck up the biome?

They probably would have magic, to us. A supernatural control over their engineered beings, and everything that serves as technology is alive?

    Yeah that’s already magic. 😊
