  • Anti ai nowadays almost exclusively means the over insertion of llms into ordinary life and/or the over trust of a blackbox computer program. People aren’t throwing hands because of alphafold as much as they are a prime minister using a language model to make policy decisions

  • I didn’t try actually contacting customer service about it but from talking to other people it has to do with how the watch moves around during exercise that gives the false readings. If I just sit still and compare to a pulse oximeter it stays pretty close but if I am biking or walking around the values change drastically. Then for some reason while when I sit down or lay in bed my heart rate is around 65 it says my resting heart rate is in the 50s

  • As a current Garmin user I really like a lot of the features of the Garmin but the app for smart watch health tracking is atrocious and some of the values you get are clearly wrong like it recording my resting heart rate at 15 bps lower than it actually is.

    The battery life is still insane which makes things like sleep tracking really nice

  • Some do, but the limitations of usb C (or any physical plug) are present and while it sounds nice in principle to have all the devices use the same cord it’s in general not worth the sacrifices that others have mentioned like it taking up extra room and the increased likelihood of water/sweat/particulate ingress

  • That’s not canceling that’s just called harassment and you could have (and probably should have) pursed legal action. Cancelling would be if they never went there again and blasted your place of business all over their social media saying nobody should go there because they are “insert random mask slur”

    When people say they are canceling target because target did something to offend someone (I don’t even remember what it was anymore) they mean they are going to refuse to go there and are going to tell other people they shouldn’t go there it doesn’t mean they are going to @ employees and their families and harass them

    When people say they are canceling Kanye they mean they are going to refuse to his listen to his music and buy his stuff maybe even go a step further and refuse to do business with any place that does business with Kanye, it doesn’t mean looking up the security guards working for Kanye and their family members and sending them hate speech that’s back to harassment

    Canceling can lead to harassment but they are not the same and you can cancel someone without harassing them and especially without harassing individual employees and their families

    If a person does something that a bunch of people don’t like why should they continue to give that person money?

    Like Elon musk is a solid example where he is actively using his wealth support far right groups around the world and his fortune is largely based on the value of Tesla stock so if you disagree with his actions why would you buy a Tesla?

  • I am a chemical engineer, and they basically don’t want to hire anyone without 2-3 years of post graduate experience and even then the majority of jobs seem to want more than 5 years of post graduate experience. Every year I watch the amount of entry level jobs drop more and more as companies just don’t want to train people anymore

  • The concept that only the educated should vote is essentially the entire advantage of living in a republic. If the test was actually fairly made it would be fine, the real problem is it would be used to limit specific demographics from voting while not actually ensuring only the educated can vote

    Proxy wars have existed for a long time and will continue for a long time the entire American revolution only succeeded because France was funding the U.S. and Britain was too busy fighting France to devote enough resources to fight the U.S.

  • As the other commenter mentioned “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” if you choose to boycott Reebok and instead purchase Nike you are instead “supporting” Uyghur Muslim slave labor. If instead of supporting McDonald’s you go to subway you are “supporting” Russias illegal war in Ukraine.

    If you want to boycott the causes that are most important to you that’s great but thinking people should face criminal charges for being apathetic amongst a minefield of shit companies is ludicrous

  • Mitch McConnell failed to let Obama select a justice in 2016. That same Congress was there since 2014, so she would have had to retire over 6 years early. She also would have had to predict that our government system would have fallen apart and all the normal checks and balances were removed. So sure it might have been better if she retired in 2010 but she left one hell of a legacy and the people that should be getting blamed are people like Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, Elon musk, Joe Rogan, Tucker Carlson, that info wars fuck head whose name I can’t remember, and everyone else whose actions were only negative instead of a person whose only flaw was she didn’t quit her job early.
