  • Lots of people don’t care about food, it’s just something to make them go from hungry to not hungry. “It fills a hole” is something I’ve heard many times, referring to food. Plenty of people just don’t care. I honestly was like that until I moved out and had to do the cooking myself. Now I can appreciate a home cooked meal or fancy restaurant meal more, but I’m still not a foodie. As long as it isn’t disgusting and it fills me up, I don’t really care. I’ll enjoy a nice meal more than a bland one, but I don’t have a strong feeling about it either way.

Cooking for my dad can be a little annoying sometimes because he’s definitely not a foodie. Many times my mom will make him a nice meal, ask him how it is, and his response is always “yeah it’s good” no matter what. Nowadays she cooks for herself and makes enough for him, because she knows he just doesn’t care, as long as it’s enough to fill him up. And I know a lot of people that are like that too.

  • Touché.

  • I remember reading a comment on here one time that said anytime you’ve got people coming over for dinner, cook some onions and garlic in oil, even if you don’t need them for the meal. The smell alone will both make your guests hungry and also get excited for a good meal (assuming they’re into food).

  • For the bedroom, a baby monitor makes sense. Not sure why you need one connected to the Internet though.

  • I love the name. I’m definitely keeping it in mind for a future cat. Two cats is enough for me for now, though. But maybe one day.

  • 0°F is the warmest allowed temperature for freezing food in the service industry. We measure with Celsius here so I only recently found out that -18°C = -0.4°F which is just about 0°F. I was looking at some cases of food we store in the freezer and noticed it said “store at -18°C (0°F) or colder”. I doubt that’s the actual reason for 0°F being what it is, but it is a practical use case for that temperature.

  • Fair enough. I mostly just use Lemmy now, but I still use Instagram for hockey and baseball content, and YouTube for long-form video content.

It sounds like I don’t have much of a use for BlueSky/Mastodon/etc then. I see enough politics and tech stuff on Lemmy, I don’t need all that elsewhere too.

  • Is there much outside of tech and politics? I’ve seen some cat stuff too but that’s about it. I love cat content but I see enough politics on lemmy and I’m not super into tech.

  • My two cats just turned a year old recently, I’ve never been attacked by either of them.

  • I’ve got two cats. One of them runs up to me as soon as I get home and follows me around all evening until I go to bed, the other doesn’t even flinch.

    I love them both.

  • Usually, how long it takes to drive there, unless specified otherwise (3 hour flight, 2 hours on bus, half hour walk, etc).

  • As a Canadian, can confirm, and yeah I agree it’s kinda nuts. But it’s what we’re all used to here, and most people will look at you weird or confused if you use the “wrong” system of measurement.

Here’s a pretty good flow chart for anyone curious:

  • Canadian here, I’d stay in my country. But with that being said, not where I currently am for sure. If by money not being an issue you mean I don’t need to look for a job, then I’d build a house in rural Newfoundland right on the ocean. If I have to look for a job but just don’t need to worry about housing expenses, then a nice house, oceanfront, probably BC. Not a major city, I hate big cities, but if I need work then I’d go somewhere close to a big enough city that I could find work no problem. Being able to see the water when I wake up in the mornings would be a necessity in this hypothetical scenario. I’d prefer the ocean but could do a Great Lake too if need be.

I don’t work in a field where it’s possible to work from home but if I did then I guess the same situation as not needing a job, as I can remote work in that case.

That’s just what I’d want though. Realistically, I have my wife and daughter to think about too. Raising a child isn’t easy and having support from my parents and hers has been very helpful, so I’d probably stay where I am, just in a nice house. There’s some smaller bodies of water near me, or larger bodies of water not too far away, so lakefront in my general area probably.

  • My void wishes everyone a happy Halloween.

  • I have a couple cats, I guess that makes me a toddler then. Does that mean I don’t have to pay rent?

  • Void 🐝

    Jump
  • This is my first Halloween with my void. I kinda want to do this to him now.

  • The dark bits? Likely shredded cheese that burnt on the tray.

  • A good chunk of that is modding but I’d still say a majority is playing the game. I’ve got somewhere in the realm of 50-100 playthroughs of Skyrim, some of which are a few hundred hours. Almost all of them are modded.

  • Alternate Start is the one I always use. 5k hours and 4.9k probably with that mod.
