  • PC gamers haven't pushed back as hard because the basic facts are NOT the same. The ecosystem is entirely different. I'm not interested in defending Steam or its use of DRM, but the fact that something is illegal doesn't mean it can't happen. Piracy is one of the big reasons PC gamers aren't nearly as affected by the lack of physical media being sold: you just make it yourself. I've even pirated games I already own just because it's the easiest way to have an unmodded install alongside a heavily modded one.

But the lack of options for console gamers doesn't stop there. Not only are the hardware and software environments completely locked down, but demographically, a much greater number of console buyers are going to be those with bad or no internet. They can't just download whatever from wherever. If they lose the discs, they may lose access entirely.

  • I wonder if Grok is also the justification they'll start using for claiming that random fishing boats in the Pacific are actually drug runners

  • In my fantasyland you would pair them with another device, like a phone, and it would do all the work. The glasses would basically be nothing more than a receiver and a display

  • Indeed it is :)

  • I imagine you'll struggle to find any locally elected politician anywhere who got a bigger turnout than that for the presidential race.

  • Explain to me how providing ID to websites is good. Explain to me how this is good for your data privacy. Uploading all your photo ID and whatnot into some private corp or government database, where it absolutely will be linked with your account, which is already grossly tracked across the internet in numerous ways. you're just asking to have your ID attached to your online activities.

You are clearly not reading the same thread I am. No one is defending those concepts; literally the opposite. You asked "why" in response to the statement that believing government propaganda is bad.

Sure, better parenting is good in a general sense, and parents should be mindful of what their kids are watching, but better parenting won't stop governments from invading your privacy because they don't actually do it in order to protect kids. They do it to control people, and they SAY they're doing it to protect kids in order to keep people complacent until it's too late. Believing the government when they say they need to protect kids from media is believing authoritarian propaganda.

  • What explanation are you even asking for? Why shouldn't you believe fucking authoritarian propaganda? lmao??? That's like asking why pushing over old people and laughing at them is bad; if you don't get it, you won't get it.

  • Yeah, when you change the context of the sentence, the meaning changes too. "A court allows" and "a man allows" aren't the same thing.

The court had an issue brought before it. It could either allow or disallow the usage of the maps. There isn't an in-between. Making a big deal over using "allow" for a court is so mind-numbingly, insufferably pedantic that I can't believe real people are actually up voting it.

"Approves" I can see a problem with because it implies that the court has made a final ruling. But being mad about it because of some moralizing nonsense is absolutely ridiculous.

  • Wow no need to be an asshole. Whatever, guess I forgot nothing a court ruled has ever had weight my bad

  • "allows"

  • Holy fuck, British Morning Show Guest absolutely slammed him. Has anyone heard Vietnamese Street Food Vendor's take?

  • LLMs will never be people. Computers might be, one day in the very distant future. But literally every piece of the current AI hype train is just hype. LLMs could, maybe, at best, be a single piece of a much larger puzzle for bringing consciousness into being. But the "Just Add More Compute Bro!" mantra is just tech bros doing their market hype thing. It has as much chance of giving rise to consciousness as my PC has whenever I add another hard drive.

  • Idk, zombies would have a lot of space to pile up around the struts, and that structure looks way easier to pull down than a normal foundation

  • I am a creature that is only capable of learning by fire. Just start the game and let me make the dumbest mistakes possible as long as they're within the rules, and I'll probably figure it out eventually!

    No, I won.

    Oh, not the letter.

    Who said O? I won.

This is propaganda from people who want you to have piss stains, shake it shake it shake it!

  • There used to be a bot that would link to some YouTube frontend whenever a link got posted, but it almost never worked and even when it did it got downvoted constantly
